Thats where I agree with you. And yes it says that fanatical is a trusted reseller and they get the keys from the publisher / game company. But I really think that they make the store pages themself with Press Material by the game company and so I dont think that the publisher “directly” builds the store page for a game on fanatical (sorry … bad english, I hope you get what I mean). For sure, if there is something very wrong on the store page, a publisher would stop giving out game keys. But yes, here I agree with you. :honeybee:

There is a key difference though. I’d argue most people aren’t against some optional cosmetics and stuff like this, only when there is more to it and when it becomes predatory. Like look as example Grim Dawn / Crate. People were asking for another Cosmetic-Bundle since years, and finally they give in. Do you ask why? Because the way Crate cultivates their game and community is differently. GD got over the course of it’s lifespawn quite a lot of HUGE free updates, and they kept working on it even if they didn’t need to. The Expansions are substancial, which people are willing to pay for (and i’ve to point out here, IF EHG ever decides for various reasons like cosmetic-shop doesn’t make enough money or whatever, to change their stance and doing paid expansion, i’m won’t hold it against them). There could be potentially made an argument about crucible (wave-based arena) as an DLC but than again it was a kickstarter-goal so obviously they won’t give that away for free otherwise backer would kinda be scammed, and without the backers the game wouldn’t exist. Point is, if you threat your customers and playerbase nicely and don’t do any scammy or predatory thing, people will thank you. On top of that if it’s a good product it also boosts to another level.

Diablo 4 IMHO itself has quite a potential, and i still have fun with it. But it does have quite some flaws, and some which you have to shake your head. How is it possible that this game doesn’t even have a basic codex system where you can rewatch / relisten stuff?! Even Diablo 3 had that but Diablo 4;(Last Epoch seems by the way as well have the issue and if i do a feedback/suggestion thread i might adress this) but atleast it seems the Shop and Battlepass work. Alot of game-design-decision aren’t thought through, like how the Open World plus Event works… i credit them that they were really able to pull off the overall feel of the layouts ebcause it still feels diablo-esque… i kinda feared they will overdo it and it feels more like Sacred, but the way the world is filled is subpar at best. I mean you have Guild Wars 2 which have shown how Events work well, and even D3 had some of these, but in D4 they feel super generic and replacable. And i could continue. Loot and Itemization is a huge issue, which is why it also show how the reaction worked out - because when you play campaign and story the game can be an absolute blast, but once you are finished and go to the endgame it kinda shows it flaws. etc etc - i don’t want to dive deep into the topic; but what i’m on about:

Diablo 4 and Blizzard have circumstances which makes it critical. They ask for a halfbaked Game (and as a huge Diablo Fan which still loved D3 (in a weird way though) and like D4 so far it hurts my soul) atleast 80 Bucks - even much more for their ultimates edition and whatsoever. They force online-only again (one of my biggest critique on them), have a heavily priced shop AND battlepass. And for both of them they don’t even have had done anything substancial to justify that. Again Fullprice + DayOne-Shop, the only way you could justify for a fullprice game to have a shop or battlepass is, with seasons and if they drop substancial and proper patches, D4 however had nothing like that… the season were rather a lacklaster and not enough to justify said pricetag, and feels more greedy and predatory because of that. ( (i mean okay S2 was heading in the right direction)
And that of one of the biggest (and retrospectively) best companies / devs in the world. They don’t need to go that far, but they still do.

VS

An Indie, and no matter how people try to downplay this, that factors in, which don’t even sell the game Fullprice, have already more consumerfriendly QoL Features in than other games, not even selling stashtabs (for now). Delivered the promised offline mode. etc etc. And for such an example people are more open and understanding if they say: He we can’t (for now) add the option for cosmetics offline because it might be too easy accessable with mods and such (i still don’t think it will help in the long run though, people will find their way around in than i’d argue it’s better to make them available offline to purchase as well, otherwise you will lose potentially consumers who would bought it for offline-mode).

Are they or the game flawless? No absolutely not, and i’m in particular not even against quite some opinions and critique people express. But it becomes problematic when people are so overly heated / emotional OR entitled / arrogant, that they start hating on the game for no reason or better the way they express themself. Calling them lazy or call them corpo is just a stretch and pretty wild approach.
