Boss stalemate problem

I’m fighting Lagon with a melee tank-ish build and have a weird problem never seen before in any other game. Neither of us can hurt the other!
Lagon’s tentacles are in the way. I don’t have a ranged attack to bypass his tentacles. But nothing happens if I attack his tentacles. Meanwhile his “mouth”, which does the damage, is so far away from me I regenerate faster than he can hurt me.

Is this a bug? Or is there a way I can walk past his tentacles so we can fight properly?

If the boss reaches 50% Health, he teleports you into the big arena, where you need to kill tentacles to proceed further to fight him directly again.

The Big Moon in the Center of the arena is filling up over time and when you kill tentacles.
Once it’s filled up you can fight him again.

It’s basically a transition phase.

Oddly, it’s sorted itself out by resetting. Initially I think it was triggered by my teleporting back to town early on (in the absence of a pause button) and returning after a break. After a couple ore teleports back and forth it completely restarted, and this time went through like you say!
