Yesterday I completed the campaign once more.
At the end of the roof top, just before entering the temple of Majasa, we have to fight several enemies and a Matron. Standard fight, nothing special.
Yesterday, the Matron had two reflections and she had the tag “Summons a twin at half health”. So at a moment, I was fighting six Matrons, all with their beam.
My poor Druid died. It was not a Hardcore hero so I don’t mind, but it could have been.
Suggestion: prohibit several modifier combinations during the campaign, when heroes are still in early leveling and sometimes don’t even have access to five specializations!
I’ve sort of touched on this before regarding Mono randoms…
There are instances where, as you mention, mobs get certain modifiers, or certain types of mobs spawn together that exponentially increase the difficulty level of the map/area… far beyond what is expected or dare I say it, fair…
One minute you can be running a lvl 90 Mono and a particular combination of mobs that compliment each other spawn and you struggle to get through it more than you do in a mono with 200 corruption…
While I have no problem with this kind of thing happening at the appropriate dificulty level, there should be some sort of check in place or even just a simple restriction table that says you cannot spawn 3 matrons or whatever in the same place unless the map level is 100. Or you cannot spawn 3 matrons witn twin modifiers unless the corruption level is >150…
No idea when the spawns are generated - but assuming these things are done when the map is loaded, taking an extra second or so to do this should nt be a problem…
I was thinking mainly about the campaign, where we don’t have a fully grown hero.
But that’s true, sometimes in monoliths this can occur. In Arena also. I feel there is a real need for a kind of limitation. I like your word: fair. The game can be hard, but it must remain fair.
Fair… yes… I have zero problem with game difficulty… in fact, I tend to get bored if games are too easy…
I know that a truly balanced aRPG is probably never going to be possible with different classes being better at one thing than another and different bosses being stronger against certain classes/playstyles, but there has to be a way for any class to progress in a reasonable way…
