It feels pretty lame to dump four points on an AOE increase (Conflation) to reach a node that makes Bone Curse into a single target skill (Oppressive Gaze). That AOE bonus just goes straight into the void and the skill points are effectively wasted.
It’s a skill point tax. The node after Oppressive Gaze makes it have unlimited duration which is pretty powerful & they can’t really have Oppressive Gaze have 3-4 points in it (unless they added additional stats to it that scaled with points).
Paying a skill point tax is fine, but it feels lame to pay it on a bonus that vanishes completely when you get the node you’re after. It’d be nice if it did something.
TBH, I’m not convinced the unlimited duration is actually all that powerful. Not how I’m using Bone Curse, anyway. I only took it for the itty bitty extra damage because there was nothing else useful for this build after I got what I wanted. Trash dies too fast for it to matter, single target makes the spell mostly unusable except on bosses, and without it I can just cast Bone Curse infinitely because the mana cost regenerates - even with no investment in it - before the effect wears off.
