Yeah I agree, thatâs why I believe there should be either separate regions based on your location and/or separate language channels so people can follow along and participate in conversations in their own language.
Yes, actually, providing separate regions or at the very least separate language chats would solve the racist rants in chat by removing the entire thing causing it in the first place.
It is not discrimination to expect to be able to have a reasonable flowing conversation in chat with people who speak the same language. Separate regions are a thing in just about every online game. You donât log into PoE and see Chinese text spam in chat. Nor with WoW, or LoL, and so on. They all have separate regions. This isnât just the case for English speakers. As you said, the Chinese players probably feel the same way and just want to communicate with other Chinese players without seeing English filling up their chat box.
I agree, but EHG are a small studio, you canât expect them to have the same resources available as âevery other online gameâ. Ignoring the fact that itâs not an online game.
Itâs also the case for all the French, German & even the Chinese speakers. As I said before, we need different channels for each language, but disabling chat for Chinese people just so English-speakers can is unreasonable.
Exactly! A single stream of chat isnât the easiest way to have a conversation when you have over a certain number of people trying to speak.
The entire thing just makes me want to turn chat off TBH. Which is sad.
I donât think it needs to be blocked at all, and I think that is completely unfair. As Llama mentioned, EHG is planning on having separate chat channels eventually as well as regional servers once multiplayer is fully up.
Itâs also peak playing time for the pacific region for the most part right now, so there will be more activity naturally. A lot of the issues right now has to do with inflammatory remarks on both sides which prompt more reactions/messages which will naturally overwhelm a single chat channel.
I consider this a growing pain as a result of growing popularity. I just recommend blocking players who are spamming the chat to clean it up as a workaround for the time being. That is what I have been doing for both parties who are just spamming chat in trivial flame wars.
It is an online game. You cannot play this offline. Turn your internet off and the game doesnât work. I just tested it to double check. That makes this an online game. The fact that we have an international chat should make that pretty obvious.
I didnât say anything about disabling chat for anyone.
I am very rarely someone who wants to turn chat off because chat is part of what makes games fun to me, but right now seeing half the chat in chinese text and the other half of chat being racist and trolling comments is pretty disappointing.
Unfair to who? Toggling an option in my settings to hide non-english chat does not harm anyone else. I donât know if yâall thought I was saying to literally block Chinese players from playing or what, but that is not the case lol. I was asking if there is a way to block âChinese textâ.
So itâs an online game. If it requires internet to log in then that makes it an online game. Even if you want say that the game data and save files are stored locally, weâre talking about chat here and chat solutions. A chat which is strictly available via online. And given that we know that multiplayer and trade is intended to be a thing, we know that the game is going to be online.
No. I did not say anything about disabling chat for anyone. Nowhere in my post does anything give that indication. I donât know how you read âblock chinese textâ as âblock chinese playersâ.
I just want to be able to log in and play and read a chat that I can participate in. Not be overwhelmed with chinese text which I canât even begin to sound out, and racist trolls in chat. Hence asking if there is a way to block text or asking about separate chats and servers. But I do think youâve been helpful in mentioning that EHG likely has upcoming solutions for this.
I think blocking certain text fonts would be hard, block (to me) in regards to chat has connotations of removing the ability to post. So apologies if I misread your intent. Even if blocking the font though would just recreate the original issue of the characters being broken icon boxes. It would also not block out the instigators in your native language.
Itâs one of those sticky topics that will most likely require a multi-layer solution. One thing I would like to see sooner rather than later is some kind of active moderation team or in-game reporting for chat as it has tendency to devolve quickly since there is no perceived immediate action or awareness that it is being monitored.
I donât know, I donât get paid to find these solutions, all I can do right now is either disable the chat or block both parties who are instigating each other and hope for the best.
Yeah it is weird that thereâs no report feature in game yet.
I get that itâs still not a launched game and that thereâs a lot more (arguable) important issues to take care of so we can eventually launch, but not having a simple way to report blatant racism and hatred in chat is odd.
Blocking is technically a solution at the moment, but blocking 3 dozen people is a bit tedious and annoying. Hopefully we get better solutions to the whole situation soon.
Wow, block? Block who? I mean, who is legitimate and who is a parasite?
Each one their language? Please no.
I donât want to be stuck in a channel for French people: I mainly talk to people from⌠in fact everywhere. Guys from the UK, Germany, Norway, the USA, Brasil, Australia, China (wow), etc. This is a real list, I really talk with people from these countries.
So I would like a channel with everyone.
And the possibility to create private channels sometimes. When this exists, later.
Till then, Iâll do as usual: Iâll wait.
My post is about seeking a solution to unreadable text in chat and for the racist hatred in chat as a result of it. I said nothing of blocking anyone. I said nothing of anyone being a parasite. Llama and I already reasoned that this isnât just an English speakers concern, other speakers likely feel the same way about having chat filled with text that they cannot read and participate in.
It is also not saying that people from different countries cannot be in the same chat together. I play with people from many different countries, though most are English based (such as Australia). I was suggesting that we have separate language chats or regions so that people can select the one which they wish to be a part of and not have to worry about half the chat being unreadable or not able to participate. Or not see the chat devolve into racism and toxicity.
