Blessings are just way too RNG

EDIT UPDATE: Due to my long time absence and assumptions I “knew” this game, I was unaware of blessings being re-speccable in the EoT, glyphs of envy, a lot of other approaches I could have used… Blessings are great as is, I retract my original feedback.

I’ve spent HOURS today and yesterday just wanting my dang resist all blessing so I can have some space to put damage on my gear, I’ve made no progress (or dropped the heart I’d like, either).

Considering how some of these blessings are key to having any success in endgame, can’t we please remove some of the RNG and stop getting blessings you’ve already received? It feels bad having a hard wall to your gearing that requires this much time invested to accrue stability before you try and get disappointed yet again.

I’m curious, what build are you playing that gets damage from a suffix?

Also, I assume you’re going out as far as you can to get more stability per echo? Maybe doing a Shafe from time to time to get more corruption to further increase the stability per echo? Maybe using a glyph of envy (?) to get more stability? And I assume you’re doing it at whatever corruption (200? 250?) is required to get 5 blessings to choose from to give you more chances per boss.

Did you increase corruption so you have more options presented?

Resists go on suffixes. There are barely any suffixes that give you damage, so that doesn’t really help you. You can replace them with other defensive affixes, though, like health, block, crit avoid/reduce, etc.

If he has some Warlock stuff like necro resi convertions or Pala stuff ele resi convertios or whatever primalist skill it was that benefit from phys resi he can get some dmg benefits from it.

There is some RNG in this game that is not designed to be “farmed” but “accomodated”…

Don’t fight the RNG… FLow with it.

Hi guys, I’ll answer individually although I see the consensus already; “deal with it.”

  1. Hi Llama, it’s been years and I’m glad you’re still around. Not many damage suffixes exist, getting resists on blessings allows me to get more health/endurance/crit avoid on suffixes, I see your point and I realized my issue was not having enough defensive layers AND not enough damage. No, I wasn’t and am not pushing corruption because I’m just not strong enough yet, but I’m slowly getting there. Lastly, I did forget completely about Envy until a couple of hours after this post, I rolled a 19% on the resist blessing and I am happy.

  2. DJ, no I tried going up in corruption during this and at about 150-160 I was getting slapped down so I had to reset. Now that I got the resist blessing I have better crit avoid and health, Endurance was already capped (Tornado shaman w/boots of the mountain).

  3. Mack, nah I’m playing Tornado shaman but thanks for considering the possibilities =)

  4. Kuro, a 20% resist all blessing is used on almost every build, some go for something else… Crit avoid I think? I haven’t dug deep into the blessings but almost every build needs/uses this and that’s usually bad for a loot-happy RPG; if one choice is the best choice >90% of the time, it’s not really a choice at all.

Update: I completely spaced glyphs of Envy, I had 30 and it took more than 20 to defeat the whimsy of the RNG gods. At least it’s over now. Now I need to find 28% crit avoid and some LP uniques to push my damage further =)

In the end, I still think having this potentially gated by RNG when just about everyone’s using it means the other choices aren’t good enough, or this blessing needs to be made more available. I also acknowledge that my odds weren’t better or worse than anyone else’s and I did have a string of mathematically bad luck.

I understand, but if you were getting slapped in 150 corruption without this blessing, (a) this blessing isn’t going to fix it, and (b) there is a way to fix it better.

I have heard some people struggling with Shaman survivabilty, so maybe that build has it hard. I’ll have to level one to find out how I would do it.

For refernce…my Beastmaster Bear/Swipe character in SSF is chain-pulling 8 packs at once in corr 280 (pushing higher as fast as I can), using a few turbo easy to make LP1 Legendaries and the rest single T6 exalts, and I have not died once in empowered monos…and I just got the 20% resist blessing to drop (I wasn’t farming it, just grinding corruption level) Key was getting not only high endurance %, but also some extra endurance threshold, and some damage leech – and of course scaling dmg.

If you import your character to Last Epoch Tools and post it maybe we could help.

Not necessarily, there can be suggestions to deal with your specific issues if you share your build.

If you hit lots of stuff then Blind (a weapon suffix or some passives can give it) us a good replacement for crit avoid/crit damage reduction since blinded mobs can’t crit you, so that 1 blind suffix can make your gearing easier.

I agree, i think wasting time farming a monolith you dont want to do (or spending glyphs on it that could’ve been spent elsewhere) just to get a single blessing is not fun or rewarding to me.

This is ofc less of a problem when your build can do the corruption lvls needed to get 5 blessing choices.

How do you usually farm stability?

Glyphs of Envy aside, I normally rush one of the timelines to 300c, then in the timeline I want to farm for a blessing, I just add and remove corruption repeatedly.

1 normal echo → spawned Echo of a World → Sanctuary of Eterra to reduce it again (if needed) → repeat.

It’s way faster than just clearing normal echoes and you get the amount as if you fully maxed the bonus stability meter.

I’ve also used that strategy for farming bosses before (also works for blessings). Sadly, it doesn’t work if you want to farm Shades. Omnis never drop with this strategy, even when you’re killing a shade at over 200c. Only rings and boots drop this way (the ones that don’t require corruption).
I expect the devs have placed this limitation on purpose for the catchup shade echoes.

That being said, despite all the tools we now have at our disposal, it can still be frustrating trying to hit our blessings right. It would be nice if the game weighted the options to show us the undiscovered ones more often and the low roll ones as well.
Not too heavy a weight, but some weight so we don’t farm a boss a dozen times and still don’t hit it.

As cheesy as it sounds that’s pretty much what I’ve been doing with most games for a while now. It’s great to know where you eventually want to end up, but killing yourself for absolute perfection along the way seems like the best way to suck all the enjoyment out of the entire process.

If a man walks into a casino and and sits down at a slot machine thinking “I’m not leaving until I hit the jackpot”…

… he will walk out flat broke 99% of the time.

Blessing RNG is just the same as the slot machine… Going into it thinking the goal is to jackpot is a great way to end up broke.

The goal in the game (like life) is to succeed!

Blessings, like a slot machine, are a tool we can use (or not use!) to help us get to our end objective… which hopefully in LE is something like Killing Aberoth…

If we go in with the goal to have every RNG blessing maxed… well… math says 99% of the time we’re going to just end up flat broke.

If we “go with the flow”, then insteasd of focusing on the one RNG thing that was unlucky, we focus on all the opportunity RNG is handing us… That super strong item or blessing that we got could lead us to switch up our build, accepting the power we were handed, instead of coveting the power we were not handed.

The rule I use to think about this is… ALWAYS BE EARNING… which means its okay to try for RNG things, as long as while doing it I’m EARNING consistent progress - something that accumulates that is not RNG based, and will help get me to my goal without the RNG.

The inefficiency in the scenerio above, is giving up too much EARNING in the hopes of RNG jackpot. Instead, look at the best ways to consistenly EARN your way to the goal, and then figure out to do that earning in most fertile ground for RNG to happen. If it does, booyah. If it doesn’t, the earnings will get you there without the RNG jackpot.

This strategy, by the way, works just as well (or even better) in life, than in the game. I retired at at age 32, and am a 50 y/o dad who skis and plays computer games because of following these simple rules above (and a bit of opportunistic luck, and never ever gambling)

Blessings are the least RNG thing in the game, it is easier to get perfect blessings than perfect anything else.

That was a lot of words to say “I agree with you”.

That’s right. But it works just fine for stability and blessings

Wow, unexpected amount of responses to a game feedback post… But I appreciate it!

  1. @Kuro466 and @Llama8: Had to figure out how to do this, wasn’t too bad. https://www.lastepochtools.com/planner/ALX7ymdA
    Here’s the guide I’m following
Tornado Shaman Guide - Last Epoch Maxroll.gg
I only JUST got this helmet which has helped a lot and now I can replace the relic when I find something notable. I realize this is against what Kuro said but I’m just farming blessings at 100 corruption for now and it’s going much more smoothly. Of course, my item gains aren’t fast due to low corruption but I’m using nemesis eggs on some guide recommended uniques to hopefully get something good for the Ox armor, wand and tempest axe.

A point of disagreement though @Kuro466 is I did finally get the blessing, that allowed me to go after other defenses so while (b) could easily be true, (a) is incorrect; it very much fixed it (I think, I haven’t gone back up in corruption yet but my EHP is right around doubled since my last post).

@Llama I didn’t realize this about the blind status effect. Be gentle, I played a lot when the game didn’t have multiplayer yet and now I’m back lol, I think I (stupidly) assumed I knew what blind was and didn’t even consider it… PoE brain, y’know?

@Ygdra Agree but I do like farming monos lol. Your second sentence was my specific pain point for sure, if I could have felt like I was progressing still without the blessing it wouldn’t have been so painful but capping resists was costing me too many defenses elsewhere, preventing meaningful progression. Not a problem now though =)

@Psojed and @DJSamhein I wasn’t strong enough to attempt this strat, I might be now but I haven’t done it before either way. Why don’t the corruption drops from Orobobo drop though, if you’re killing a shade with the required corruption? Is it explained in game? All I’ve read is certain corruption levels add certain drops to Bobo.

@Kuro466 I’m glad your life strategy did so well for you =) I’m 40 and a corporate first line manager nowhere near retirement or even owning a home in the state I work in but my family and I are comfy and saving up for when home interest rates drop lol. Single income with a family is tuff. It was thoughtful of you to share this about yourself.

@doombybbr This was not my experience but again, I recognize that I may just have been exceptionally unlucky.

EDIT: Something I forgot to say, if this build/class is just kind of underperforming right now don’t be afraid to just spell it out for me, I’ve been away from this game for a long time so I’d happily re-roll, I love the diversity in this game… I just don’t/didn’t want to give up on this one until it got a fair shake =). Aside from feeling forced to run Spriggan for the dodge and crit avoid I quite like it, I don’t care for minion builds and while this isn’t such a build, I feel kind of stuck with this one minion for this build lol.

Yeah, it changed at some point, possibly 0.9, maybe 1.0. It used to just do ranged attacks were less accurate, now it’s actually useful (if you can apply it to everything & keep them blind).

You’ll also want to get your resists down to somewhere around 75%, resists are different in LE compared to PoE, you aren’t punished for being undercapped (though obviously you do want to be capped), but there’s limited benefit for being overcapped (that only mitigates resist shred).

If you have a decent amount of crit damage reduction (100% would be ideal, but this particular stat is also way more forgiving than crit avoidance & fully useful at <100%) you don’t need crit avoidance, if mobs are blinded, you don’t need crit avoidance or crit damage reduction. You’ve got some crit damage reduction & crit avoidance, so I’d suggest picking one & going with that.

I’m sure others will give you more advice.

To avoid a farming strategy where you’re doing shades every couple minutes, rather than have to go explore the mono web until he spawns at the edges.
Shade is supposed to be rare. You have to delve deep into the web and once you kill him, it resets and you have to find another. Which is why he has such a good amulet.
Letting the catchup shade drop all loot would invalidate all of this.

My guess is that the corruption catchup mechanic always assumes a 100c shade. So you only get drops from 100c shade, rather than whatever corruption you’re at.

I see blessings as bonuses, and they are rarely ever core components of a build for me. I will create build planners using blessings for endgame characters, but as I actually progress a character in-game I simply use them as bonus stats…

It does seem a little unhealthy to chase blessings as core build components because they offer nothing unique, they are just redundant ways of attaining stat requirements.
