So I was looking through the warlock skills in an attempt to find something interesting to do, and I started looking at the big chaos bolt stuff. Now normally, there’s 0% chance you’re running a 30-43 mana cost skill as your basic attack, but with harvest I thought there may be potential. This led me to check out the mana gained on harvest use affix for body armors, which to my disappointment, is direct cast only. So now we’re back to no possible way to run big chaos bolt.
My suggestion is this, change that affix so that it will work off procs. It’s not game breaking, you have to give up a body armor prefix for it, and right now nobody runs it because nobody runs melee harvest. Either that, or make big bolts actually playable without some ridiculous mana gen.
I think that’s the problem, possibly due to the tree being old & that there’s precious little support for melee on any of the passive trees.
I’d be surprised if they did make the change you suggest as all of the other mana procs (eg, Time & Faith and the mana on smite/etc on Sentinel) are on use rather than cast and were changed from proc to use.
All true, however it would also help out the LL warlocks who can’t take the mana gain nodes in chaos bolts due to them being combined with health gain. The real issue is the entire right side of the chaos bolts tree, but since that skill is so new I doubt they’re going to revamp it anytime soon. At least by letting the affix work off procs you’d open up a different way of speccing chaos bolts and let some interesting builds come to the front.
