Ballista critical strike chance

I am having a bit of trouble calculating the ballista critical strike chance when using for example this build.

The build assumes that the critical strike chance for the ballistas is capped. What are the calculations involved?

By my calculations I am getting a critical strike chance of 99.84% for the ballistas using the linked build (endgame or aspirational builds). Am I correct?

MaxRoll is an abomination because it doesn’t want to display the node text if you click on it on my phone.

Your Ballista will have a base crit of 18 % (base 5% + 2x4% minion crit from phantom grip + 2x2% player crit from phantom grip + 3% from the crit node in Ballista). Assuming the target has capped stacks of crit vulnerability (target has an additional 20% chance to be crit, this is not affected by your % increased crit), you only need to hit 80% crit chance, so you’d need a total of 345% increased crit chance for your minion (4 points in Perfect Aim applies player flat & % crit chance to your Ballista at 100% so you have more options on how to hit that 345% increased (eg, 100% increased player & 245% increased minion is functionally equivalent to 245% increased player & 100% increased minion, or 345% increased player or 345% increased minion).

If you’re struggling to hit that, a second point in Sharpened Tips increases the Ballista’s flat crit to 21% which reduces the need for % increased to 281%.

My calculations are not in line with yours. My calculations were the following:

Base crit chance 5%

Two rings of +4% each

Ballista’s Nod +3%

Passive bonus +5%

Total 21% critical strike chance for the ballistas skill.

The remaining calculations regarding the critical strike chance increase from “Needle like precision” passive and the “Perfect aim” skill node I am not certain they are correct.

Should the critical strike chance increase from “needle like precision” be multiplied before or after adding my critical strike chance (perfect aim)? Also, wich critical strike chance should I use for my char, melee or bow critical strike chance (53% vs 70%)?

The Ballista node Perfect Aim applies the ring’s 1-2% player crit (per ring) to the Ballista as well. For a total of 25% flat crit

Perfect Aim gives your Ballista % increased (& flat) minion crit chance. The value it gives is calculated based on your player flat/% increased crit chance. So if you have 4% flat player crit chance (from 2x Phantom Grip rings), the Ballista gets +4% flat crit from Perfect Aim. So if you also had an additional +10% flat crit chance (from a t7 Deadeye prefix on a bow) your Ballista would get +14% flat crit chance from Perfect Aim.

Oh I am getting what you are stating! That really makes a lot of sense! I am sorry if it seemed I was doubting you but English is not my main language.

My calculations were all wrong because I was adding my base crit chance to the ballista crit chance. So let me get this straigh:

Assuming the base crit chance of ballista is 21% with the passives, nodes and items, will add to this the +(1-2)% flat crit chance of each ring and the bow +3% flat crit chance to get a total of 28% base crit chance. Not accounting for the crit vulnerability, I need a total of +257% increase crit chance between my char and minion %increase critical strike chance stat.

Correct?

Yup, pretty much.

I already replied to you on Reddit, but it seems my calculations are still off.
Here’s my build from Season 2:
https://www.lastepochtools.com/planner/oXzzPlVl
According to previous calculations, the Ballista’s critical strike chance should be 88.04%, but my Ballista always crits.
Most likely, it should be calculated like this:
First, the entire flat critical strike chance is added up:
5+3+2+2+2(character)
5+3+4+2+5+3(Ballista)
Next, the critical strike chance increases.
And following the formula, we get the following:
(5+3+2+2+2+5+3+4+2+5+3)*(1+0.47+0.32+0.3+0.4+0.36+0.06+0.36)=117.72

If we consider the build you shared, the final critical strike chance would be 119%.
