It would be nice if you could fix your automod that prevents sending messages or talking about benign things, and by fix I mean completely remove.
So far I’ve run into several instances where your chat system prevented me from speaking to others about simple things like basic game mechanics.
One example, loot filters. “top stuff overrides bottom stuff” when talking about priority of rules gets flagged with the standard message:
Your message has been detected as containing language which does not adhere to our Code of Conduct and has not been sent to chat. If you do not agree that it should have been blocked please let us know at support.lastepoch.com.
Clearly this didn’t violate the code of conduct, so your systems basically lying to us and trying to coerce us into using other language.
Short of opening up a request, there’s no easy to find place where to let you all know, and these little benign sayings you don’t find until you need to communicate something to someone and then can’t.
Worse, it is trivial to get around in a way that a computer can never prevent. All it does is annoy the crap out of the person because its coercing language. It would be better for everyone if you just removed it.
I reported another instance of these via a request a week or two ago which was also benign, apparently you have banned the word ‘hump’ which has multiple meanings (like a camel hump as a colloquialism), I was trying to ask about a better build and getting over the level 70-90 hump, and it wouldn’t let me. Unlike other games, you have to retype the same thing over and over to try and identify what is triggering the filter.
There is no benefit to you in keeping it. People can work around it and computers can’t keep up because they require determinism, and same words meaning different things fundamentally breaks that system’s property. Automata theory and other core CS fundamentals says computers will never be able to handle this perfectly or even reasonably.
Worse, it creates new problems which you have no visibility on.
Do you think people looking to have fun like being coerced? How do you think they feel when a system the dev’s designed coerces behavior and its pretty blatant. Is it fun?
Psychology has quite a large number of published studies which show manipulations and coercive behavior have an opposite, often irrational negative and emotional effect, when the victim recognizes the manipulation.
There is nothing good that comes from this.
Others, feel free to post your benign sayings that have been blocked.
