Audio in general is the area where the game has the most room to grow. Fortunately, it should be a fairly straightforward upgrade down the line and I understand why it might be low on the devs’ priorities. Better get all your other, more complex, ducks in a row beforehand. That being said, I REALLY hope they address it before launch since audio is such a key part of building immersion in a game. As it stands, I usually play music over the game since most of the soundsFX/soundtrack feel like placeholders.
I think most people would agree we’ve come quite far recently, but there’s always room for improvement. We’d love to hear any suggestions you have for what needs to be improved! It’s much much easier to implement targeted feedback on particular areas than to re-evaluate audio as a whole.
When I think of sound improvements I think of more environmental sounds.
You already implemented environmental sounds, I know. I’ll try to play a bit with the sudio settings because with the default values it’s not that noticable.
But imho there could be more atmospheric sounds that create more situational immersion.
- distant screams
- combat sounds
- create a void related sound effect that plays once in a while (distorted whispers) in the Ruined era.
- maybe presage coming bossfight with specific dramatic elements, so the atmosphere gets more dens the further you go towards a bossfight
Also more enemy specific voice lines would be cool, like Rayehs soldiers have. All human like enemies should have that (void clerics for example).
I would say for me the skills could need some audio improvements. I have not tried all skills so i will speak generally about the ones i tried like fireball, elementalist nova, glacier and some other ones i can not remember the name of. I am not that good with gaming/audio technicalites, so bare with me.
The skills felt weak when casting them. There is no “energi” behind them for exempel lets take the fireball. You know that sound magic that add to it being a fireball when casting it, the projectile then just felt flat when going flying and finally hitting a unit or the environment again that sound magic that makes it all more impactful felt missing.
I agree with Rawsuicide completly too, environmental sounds could do wonders for the game adding to that immersion too. Some really good suggestions there.
