Arena Overtuned Bosses?

After checking with people in game and several attempts to conquer arena, I cannot tell if it is intended that the bosses are so excessively overtuned compared to the waves?

My current swarmblade is able to absolutely wreck everything - the waves are just straight boring - yet when the boss spawns, all of my minions are one shot and then he (Afrig) turns to me and 3 shots me within about 2 seconds. This is with capped res across the board and lightning dots ticking for about 10k; roughly 1.8k health.

After fighting Afrig a few times, I proced the forge pally guy instead and had the exact same result except I was pretty much unable to get near him due to this AoE seemingly having no CD? The only people who have said they have beat these bosses in-game when I asked have been minion heavy individuals who have admitted to dying to the boss as their minions killed it.

Are others experiencing this issue? Am I doing something wrong? If this is widespread, this definitely feels like a balancing problem. Difficulty jump should not be this heavily weighted after sitting through 40 waves.
