Arek’s Bone Armor Shred for summons effect appears not after equipping item, but after equipping item and reloading location. It doesn’t work if you just equipped that item.
Also Armor Shred effect from item is kept even after unequpping item. So basically you can equip Arek’s Bone, enter boss location and replace item with another, and still have Armor Shred.
