I can’t quite put my finger on it but…last epochs aesthetics feel OFF, like it’s only 1/4 done. Most the world and models look like other games in their pre-rendered state, you know like when you load into a game and just the skeletons of the assets have loaded without any detail? the entire game feels like that, the whole game looks like it’s made out of playdough. Or just the skeletons from a world builder program have been placed around on a map editor.
Idk, do you know what I mean? I just hope there is still some refinement to come I am not sure.
How far have you progressed through the campaign? They are constantly updating areas and this is still Beta. Act 1 is one of the older zones and it’s been a while since I’ve been there, things improve in later acts.
I actually love the aesthetics myself, especially in Act 1. However, for whatever reason I usually hear most people make graphical remarks about it. To each their own.
There are some spells/skills that feel like they are in an unfinished state, such as cold Lightning Blast.
Other than that most things look good to me, maybe apart from some character models and armour.
I am in act 5 Maj’elka I think, I am a void knight. the customization and boss fights are great so far. The story took a while for me to start following along with what was happening, someone should make a Lost Epoch story explanation video on youtube, I tried to look for one lol.
Yeah needs better lighting effects in general and animations improvements accross the board for characters, monsters and environment. Some more than others. I would say review Ruined and Imperial era.
Imo the ruinded and imperial era ,even after the recent updates, still need better creature models for both trash monsters and especially bosses.
I still can’t get familiar how weird Harton or Zerrrick look like. Obviously they should be different than an ordinary undead, but should imo still have some sort of resemblance of a bi-pedal humanoid (since we learn through story there are inded humans in a different timeline) and not some random resident evil mutants.
Give them some uniqe details here and there like a special armour set, special aura/character effects and ,in case to make base model look different, at most some enhanced body parts (but not more limbs) and not some random animal/arachnid/parasite like creature we have now.
For example to give and preserve both said bosses their unique pre and current day undead identity.
Make Zerrick overall look like sneaky, treacherous Boss which uses Rogue like skills in a (maybe) random fashion as Orybos each time you fight him, with an armor set that would make sense for an agile and fast enemty.
Harton is more or less a captain and could be minion based summoning his crew to help him, when players fight him. He would probably use ranged attacks mostly, and have a armor set that makes im look like an undead ship captain. You can draw similarities from other games or movies, there is lots of material.
Divine Era is imo the best looking as an overall package and the new Werebear model (even though not perfect) should be a standard built to from in regards of details and animations to give character skills more punchyness .
Well, Zerrick and Harton actually make sense - they are revived, experimented on by Undead (story heavily indicates that) or mutated under influence of corruption. Why not “make abomination more agile, humanlike, it used my skeleton rouges as a catalyst” then?
It would make literally no sense at all in my opinion.
I do agree. It looks and feels very similar to Diablo 3 imo and that game is almost a decade old.
I think the general environment is good, but for me it’s the monsters/bosses/inventory/game menus etc that feel like they are from 20 years ago.
The other big thing related to this is audio. There is almost ZERO DEPTH to the sounds and audio in this game. No thrilling, chilling, exciting, scary music or sounds. Monster death sounds, skill sounds. They all seem very weak and dull.
Personally, I think doing a massive overhaul/upgrade of the sound and audio in th game will be a far bigger benefit than graphics. Sound alone can create an amazing experience.
True that they could be better, but there are more important issues that needs rework/implementing first (falconer+occultist or how is that acolyte class called, performance, multiplayer, animations - all of them imo, bug fixes, etc.). This one has time, even after the 1.0.
I agree, the area music and boss musics need to be tuned to be actually unique. I want the zones to have their own specific and recognisable leitmotif that changes based on the timeline you are in. But currently the only place that has a recognisable leitmotif is end of time.
