I have been playing as a Sorcerer Mage in 0.9 and have been having a great time! However, I recently specced into Arcane Momentum from the Sorcerer tree and it doesn’t seem to be behaving as the description suggestions it should.
The tooptip (on the top left skill node of the Sorcerer Passive Tree) states:
When you cast a spell you gain a stack of AM which lasts for 2 seconds and refreshes the duration of existing stacks (emphasis mine). Max stacks: 5
However, in game play I seem to randomly gain between 1 and 3 stacks of AM each time I cast, and I have seen them stack up to 40. Additionally, the number of stacks decays gradually rather than them all disappearing at once. This leads me to suspect that the CD of each set of stacks generated is being tracked individually rather than them being refreshed as the tooltip suggests - since I would expect them to all disappear at once if this was the case?
Log file for my most recent play session (party play with 2 other people) where I had AM skilled throughout is attached.
It always goes 1 - 3 - 6 - 10 - etc,
So the current behaviour is : Each cast adds n+1 AM stacks, with n being the previous stack number Stacks don’t refresh No stack limit
Example:
Each line is one cast
1
1+(2)
3+(3)
6+(4)
10+(5)
15+(6) (usually by then the first stack will have expired, giving you 20 total stacks)
etc.
Which is obviously extremely OP, since you can easily reach 40+ stacks as you said, which is way more damage and cast speed than the intended limit of 5 lol
(And since the more cast speed you have the more stacks you can get and the more cast speed you get, there probably is a breakpoint somewhere where you stack faster than you lose them and eventually get infinite stacks ).
Edit : Upon further testing, it seems that the crazy stacks are purely visual, and that AM itself actually works fine (I never got more than +25% cast speed, despite having 40-ish stacks, which should have given me +200% cast speed if it were actually bugged)
