Hello!
I don’t know how but I want to ask awesome devs from EHG regards to how they are going to fight with cheaters both in multiplayer and single-player game? I read that some people brag about how easy it is to break the game with cheat engine. It is sad to read something like this about the game which I believe should have very bright future and having such dedicated team as EHG.
And especially I want to accentuate the issue of macroses in the game. They should be strictly banned somehow. I though about it but I can’t realise how it can be done technically. Macroses are absolutely unholy and create unfair advantage for the player. Maybe some sort of a mechanism which can realise some patterns identifying the usage of macroses. I think it is very important question especially for multiplayer.
Thanks in advance!
It’s nearly impossible to ban people for using macros, the way to detect their use would only really be possible with invasive monitoring of your PC while the client is open which is illegal, and immoral. Macros will always be a thing that exist, as it does in PoE and other ARPGs/online games where as long as someone doesn’t blatantly state they use them there’s nothing anyone can do about it.
As far as cheat engines go, they will never release specifics because people who create those programs are also reading the forums and could easily create work arounds. They have stated in the past that they are developing ways to catch people who use cheat programs and it’ll be that much easier to do once multiplayer releases and we’re all playing server side rather than client side.
However, we will never be completely “bot/hack free” because it’s an ongoing struggle in any online game and always will be, it’s a cat and mouse situation where both sides are always one step ahead/behind the other. You can trust EHG to be constantly working on this as the game progresses though and to always do their best to minimize any impacts cheaters and bots will have.
That is not really true.
It’s probably not feasible yet for EHG, but there are a lot of things the devs can do about macros, without invasive monitoring in a online/server authenticated environment.
You can use already existing methods for detecting macros or create your own as a dev.
Certainly nothing of completely deceptively safe, but there are certainly ways to do it.
Just to give one of the easiest and most simple examples, the game could recognized repeating precisely timed inputs, e.g. using skill x every 8 seconds.
Obviously there are already macros who have integrated randomization to coutneract this method of detection, but it’s just one very simple and easy to grasp example.
The problem with that is anyone who uses macros knows that, and macro software now comes with methods to easily fool that system. I was aware of that when writing it and left it out since it’s not really a fool proof way of proving someone is using macros since it’s unreliable and anyone using macros effectively is already aware of this.
But yes, someone who doesn’t understand macros would get caught immediately if they used that method to catch them.
yes it is true, unless EHG wants to spend vast amounts of a budget they simply dont have to remove a part of the game they created themself they are in for a world of pain
Not only that you can autocast on a controller by simply putting a rubberband on the L/R trigger keys which is just a player holding down the key.
I macro’d in Diablo 3 constantly. even while I was afk I would be spamming keys on a loop, never got banned/warned because its not cheating, infact I took it a step further and had 4/5 skills autocasted and even started using a auto left mouse clicker as I didnt want to left click anymore and once again…no issues. I held Rank 2/1000 for a while and was completely open with the fact I used macros so there was an issue competitively
Some Dev posted regarding D3 saying they basically didnt care if you used macros as long as you werent afking as that would then be botting
I think there’s usually more of a difference between macroing-to-replace-holding-the-key-down and using a macro to press specific keys based on the current state of the game/screen. Numlock is an example of the former, a bot the latter.
