First of all, thank you for making such a great game. Love everything about it. I play both online and offline, however I have issues when I play online. Every 15 to 20 mins I get disconnected from the online servers. As a result of this I have opted to play offline mode. No one likes to be in the middle of a boss fight and lose connection only to have to start over again. This happens in every game I play which tells me it’s on my side and not your side. I have contacted my isp multiple times for the past 5 years over this issue, but to no avail of them fixing the issue. In fact, my brother who lives down the road has the same issue. He streams and is the World Record Speed Runner of Cuphead. The isp has been contacted by him over the same issue for years as well. Therefore, I appreciate that you have developed the game so that it can be played offline.
I just wish that when I supported your development by purchasing your Mtx’s that I could actually use them. Technically I can because I can play online to see them, but the disconnects that happen make playing offline a smoother gaming experience for me. I don’t exactly know what it would entail for you all to make them available offline, and I’ve read many explanations on this forum as to why it’s not happening. I just wish that as I continue to support the development, that myself and others like me could benefit from spending our money even offline, as that is the best gaming experience for me. I will obviously continue to purchase the majority of the cosmetics as I want to continue to support your work and development, but can you please fix this issue for those offline players that face a similar situation as I do?
Honestly it would take at least one thing: effort. And so it is not going to happen. From bussiness point of view it will most likely not generate enough revenue for them to justify any time put into this. They are afraid people will be able to hack the cosmetics in their offline mode once they make it available (which is honestly ridiculous). The people who would do this are the very same people who would NEVER buy those items in the first place so you would be losing exactly 0 money on this. Compared to money you are losing now on people who play the “offline” mode (the one with online chat) and would actually like to buy your sh*t. In this mode it requires minimal effort to make MTX work, as the game connects to their services anyway.
How long have you been playing the game? Like me, I am pretty sure he has been here since either alpha or beta, and knows what this cluster fuck of a game was 4 years ago when we backed it. If it werent for EHG effort we wouldnt have the honor to read the bullshit some of you love to type.
This is literally the only reason I play online. I remember a post god knows how long back where cheating or hacking came into play, but it has been so long I would have to find it. There are plenty of people playing the game illegitimately, at this point let the people supporting the game enjoy it how they seem fit.
It’s probably something that could be done, but also it seems like something that may not really have a use in being done especially when so few of the playerbase actively plays online, and of those that do how many have actually bought mtx?
If you backed the game way back in the day, you got 500+ points depending on what you bought. Back then none of us knew this caveat would be there. There are many people who like being able to play offline, dont see how this choice would make somebody enjoy an “ugly” character compared to somebody playing online with the same “ugly” character.
There is absolutely no data to support this. We have no idea how many play online and how many play offline. Neither do you. The devs might know, but so far they haven’t said anything.
It was poorly worded on my side so I appologize for that. I didn’t mean EHG are not putting effort in the game. What I meant is that the effort needed to be put into making MTX available for the semi-offline mode (however minimal it would be) would have to be justified by enough revenue generated. So far it seems the fear of piracy is greater than that, so it is not going to happen. Which I disagree with, because it doesn’t really make much sense, but that is pretty much the only thing I can do about it
I do feel that it’s a weird choice not to sell MTX for offline.
Sure, there’d probably be ways to cheat the system and get them without paying, but I do believe that most players using MTXs would do so through normal paying channels and the legitimately acquired freebies.
There has been a topic about this discussion and opinions were divided. Because some players that buy MTX might feel cheated on when someone else has the same MTX (or more) without paying.
Personally I think they should allow them offline and just cash in the money from the people that do pay legitimately, but it’s not a straight-forward or black/white answer.
There’s also the issue that the fully offline client doesn’t connect to the server, so it can’t know which MTXs you bought.
They could always offer them as dlc packs for offline like Crate does with Grim Dawn? (I haven’t actually looked at the MTX shop for LE so idk how feasible this is, or how they’d link purchasing through the MTX shop giving the DLC through Steam)
Edit: thinking about it a bit more, Vermintide 2’s in-game store sends you to the Steam page for the dlc pack. Would that work?
The problem is that the offline client has 0 server connection. It doesn’t connect to LE’s servers, it doesn’t connect to steam. If you have steam open steam knows you’re playing because their app simply tracks it, but you can play it without internet and with steam closed.
Which is what the players requested.
So there really is no simple way that can’t be easily duped to do this.
You could easily fix it with the false offline mode, where you still connect to the servers. But the fully offline one is a harder egg to crack.
Anyway, I’m sure EHG is aware of this (it’s been talked about since 1.0 several times) and they’re also aware of their options and what they might or might not be able to implement, as well as the risk/benefits of each one.
Hmmmm, I thought that there are fully offline games with dlc stores. I thought it could work the same here. I understand very little about networking though so I’m sure it’s far more complicated than I think it is.
There are games that can do that but they work differently.
These games start from a standpoint of “I can communicate with steam”. So they can access the store and their items. If they then lose connection, they no longer access the store nor do they have the items, even though you can continue playing.
LE starts from a standpoint of “I’m not going to communicate with anyone”. And that’s it. It just doesn’t communicate at all
Again, this is this way because it’s what many players requested.
