Anomaly: Cycle of decay and quicksand node (ailment acceleration) odd behaviour

This is a confusing and somewhat difficult to explain interaction so bear with me. Here is a link to the discussion on discord that prompted this: Discord

Cycle of decay: When enemies return to the present, the duration of damaging ailments applied to them is reset.

Quicksand: When enemies return to the present all damaging ailments currently applied to them apply faster. (This affects the duration of ailments, not damage)

My interpretation of the intended behaviour:

  • ailment lasting 30 seconds dealing 100 dps is applied
  • 10 seconds pass, 1000 damage is dealt, 20 seconds and 2000 damage remain
  • anomaly is cast, ailment remaining damage is reset to 3000, but is accelerated by 75% 17.14 seconds duration and the dps is 175.
  • 10 seconds pass, 1750 damage is dealt, 7.14 seconds remain with 1250 damage left.
  • Anomaly is cast again, ailment is again reset to 3000 remaining damage is accelerated again by 75% to 9.8 seconds duration at 306.25 dps.
  • ailment ticks to completion dealing 3000 damage over next 9.8 seconds.

What actually occurs:

For a single ailment stack the behaviour is quite close to expected, but the duration reset from cycle of decay does not reset the remaining damage to be dealt. Instead, it causes the remaining damage to be spread out over the new duration.

For multiple ailment stacks applied by multiple hits the total damage behaviour works as it does for a single ailment (the total damage of the ailment is not reset when it’s duration is reset) however the acceleration seems to be multiplied by the number of hits that were made to apply the ailment in the first place which produces very odd results.

Additionally, @Mistia42 took down some numbers:

The duration on the refreshed Smite looks about right but the damage per tick looks like it’s being reduced rather than increased by Quicksand.
