An idea..maybe it's useless

I was thinking about something… the players currently say that the multiplayer update is gonna separate the beta players from the multiplayer patch server… I see why, marketplace abuse and leveling up friends would be a bit ridiculous…

But if I spend hundreds of hours on characters… why can’t we at least have trading disabled and XP sharing switched off for those characters instead? It would solve those issues and not make players feel like all the time we spent playing is now wasted and useless. I currently feel this way and think there could be this alternative or some other way to keep progress or limit the loss involved with being limited to non-multiplayer with those characters…

A bunch of people that decided to get toxic about my view on it, whom were quickly blocked, said it was just practice mode. This made me think about a very strong point, if I was to spend a lot of time with most of the classes… I would feel extremely bored if I had to do that all over again. Yes, there is some merit to it… but in comparison to PoE… restarting endlessly only pushes me away from the game. In my experience, each class type was what turns into the content. Learning how it plays, learning builds, discovering powerful combinations and using them to push as high as possible…

Especially, in the prospect of online play… starting completely over is demoralizing and quite annoying. No one would ever want to do that, unless there were incentives. Diablo 3 and PoE had seasons and increases rates for drops or XP to play in those seasons, or access to new content that old characters cannot.

I’m just hoping the progress we make and all the hard work to learn the skills, items, combinations is not just reduced to something we wouldn’t really use anymore, considering everyone would be online instead.

Post if you want, this is just my attempt at an alternative to not feel the horrible effect of wasted time on a game I enjoy. Beta or not. If you show up just to be an asshole about my perspective on this, get lost. No one needs the toxic behavior.

It’s beta. Not a pre-release. That means a lot of the “progress” you had was developed at a stage when the game wasn’t properly balanced yet.

If keeping progress is that important to you, perhaps beta games aren’t suitable for you.

While I understand and agree with the devs point on this, the modern gaming industry/landscape has very significantly blurred that particular distinction, IMO, to the point of it not being a difference anymore.

I doubt and hope they wont do a wipe when release. people with thousands or hours invested in the game and farming doubt anyone would want to start again. just my thought

And the point being? Are you supporting OP?

Isn’t this exactly what happens? Your current characters will not be wiped they will be offline characters. Thus, it has trading disabled but will still exist and be playable. The only difference you may have is, if chat will only be accessible in online mode, you cannot chat with others.

Or is your main problem that you probably will not be able to party-paly on this charater with your friends?

No, I’m mostly just being argumentative, but also the situation now is a lot different to in the past when the distinction you’re making was entirely valid.

Big budget AAA companies have definitely blurred the distinction. But I do see the possibility that the distinction becoming meaningful again.

Betas with Indie studios like EHG can never pretend they are anything more than what this phase of development is meant to be. And I think there are now more platforms available now for such indie studios to reach out directly to the community for financing support and development feedback. Gamers who choose to engage themselves with the development of these games should start appreciating the difference.

There is some confusion here as to whether you’re under the impression that your characters are getting wiped at MP release (they aren’t) or you just want to be able to play with friends with those characters. If it’s the latter, then the problem is probably more technical than anything. Along with the reasons mentioned (legacy gear and what not), I imagine it’s quite a bit of work to put such a specific system in place that won’t even be relevant in a few years.

I actually can’t wait for the MP “Reset”. A bunch of us completely reset our accounts this patch just to get the experience of starting totally fresh with the new content.

Add me to that group of the fresh reset. That is what happens every league over at PoE. LE has stated there will be a similar Offline (Standard) and MP (standard), Cycle (league) play. Now that gives us three options unlike PoE, where no offline exists at all, which IMO is a huge bonus. Creating private leagues in PoE is a hybrid solution, but it is still fully online.
