Genuine question, what the heck is everyone doing with the amount of Altars that drop?
I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around what looks good and what doesn’t with these things. There seem to be so many variations and arrays that they almost always seem different but there’s no way I’d be able to store all of these things.
It’s way too early but something tells me I’m going to want to see a system that allows you to salvage these things and store their arrays then farm for mats and stuff to imprint the affixes you want and sink materials into upgrading them over time. Yada yada.
That’s a good question, I got a bunch of tabs but I have to go through them after. I think the ones in which you can equip multiple corrupted idols would probably be the best ones just given that you could get more stats/options etc. Then again I’m sure it could be seen as a ‘win’ more so I’m not sure.
I quickly got to the point where I’m very picky about which ones I pick up. Most of them I don’t bother with unless they are either with 2 prefixes and 2 suffixes or have affixes that I think are worth it. Most I just leave on the ground now.
I’m currently at two tabs and then really started to think, hold up, wtf am I doing with all of these. Now I’m just trying to figure out how to prioritize.
Yeah, I don’t think it’s a bad thing, but it’s new enough that I’m not sure how to be selective.
So are you just only prioritize based on your current build and needs? Not even worrying about potential other good ones for other builds? Do you think they drop often enough that when you do another build or character you’ll likely find one that’s useful for it and then you can target it? If that’s the case, I’ll likely set up a filter that only shows very specific ones for my particular build. It’ll make it a lot more manageable.
While this would be nice to have, ultimately altars are no different from idols. What do you do with the hundreds or thousands of idols that drop that you don’t use? You just leave them on the ground and have no way to reuse them.
Basically, like you yourself pointed out, the issue is that this is still new so players are still figuring out how best to filter them and which ones are worth keeping or not. Once they do, they’ll be no different than all those idols or even uniques (and even plenty of exalted items) that you don’t want. You just leave them on the ground or hidden by your filter.
As with all items, MG will have the option to sell and CoF will have basically no use for them either.
i’m hoarding all of the ones with good affixes.
i don’t know what to do yet with altars, so many combinations.
i like this new idea, but for now it’s to much for my little brain to wrap around
Yeah, this is what I quickly came to realize. Though I think it feels even more akin to a new gear slot because of the level of complexity.
With idols, the only real consideration are figuring out two best affixes than you hide everything else. With the new altars not only do you have the potential for, apparently, four different affixes you also have a new base affix as well as a ‘structure.’ Add it corruption and my head spun around a few times.
I just wanted to get a little insight from what other people were seeing before I started ‘spring cleaning.’
If you rather want a more strict filtering and not sift through too many altars another long term Bis method as well is:
What are your best idol shapes? (especially with the new omen idols)
And then choosing the Altar Layout that can fit as many of these Bis idols in as many refracted slots as possible.
For my current build for example I wanted to use the new Grand Arcane Omen Idols. And there is only one Altar Layout(pyramidical) that can fit 4x Grand Idols in 4 separate refracted slots. Then my bare minimum requirement is +3 Omen Idols to get to 4 Omen Idol capacity. With this filter I can already ignore all other requirements, because these requirements are crazy strict.
I guess the only downside is collecting potential good altars for other builds or characters.
No, I’m not looking only at my current build I look at potential for other builds also. I’m just picky about what I think will be worthwhile to me and I look at ever one to make that decision.
There is a way to reuse them, not the best and I’ve only done it a couple of times due to it takes an opportunity to enchant or reenchant one. At the Idol Enchanter at the end of the Tomb or Cemetery you can reroll it to try to get a better one.
I know that exists, but it might as well not exist at all, since it’s totally useless. The fact that it rerolls both affixes means that what you get is basically a new idol drop for each tomb you finish (or 2 per cemetery).
A simple prophecy or idol echo will provide you with way more idols.
This would become very useful and a way to actually reuse idols if they made a simple change: let us lock one of the affixes.
That way you get an idol which has a useful affix and one that has a useless one, you use this mechanic to try to get 2 useful affixes.
The way it is now you won’t use an idol with a useful affix, because the most likely outcome is that you’ll get 2 useless ones. And you won’t use idols with 2 useless affixes because it’s not worth spending amber for what is basically a random idol drop.
Exactly, but it is a way to reuse them so a way does exist. It needs to be seriously looked at since it is considered by at least most players as useless, and I agree.
