I don’t know if I misunderstand the mechanic or if it’s not working correctly.
I’m using Glyph of Dominion converted to fire. Reading about this kind of skill, which places a DoT on the ground, it should NOT benefit from on-hit effects.
On the other hand, losing 100% increased fire damage and adding 150% increased ignite on hit with fire skills makes my DPS skyrocket.
So how is it supposed to work? Do ground effect count as hits each time they apply damage?
My issue is not at all with damage calculations, it’s a mechanic interaction issue.
Ground effects are not supposed to hit enemies but just apply the damage, if I add an “ailment ON HIT” affix, it should be ignored because I’m not technically hitting anything.
Glyph of Dominion does hit once, when the duration expires and runs out.
Ailments do count into tooltips dps quite a lot, but this is usually very inaccurate for cooldown based abilities and really bad for high mana cost abilities. Glyph of Dominion technically can be “spammed” and everytime you cast a new glyph the old one detonates. This is what makes ailment chance affect the tooltip so much. But you don’t want to use Glyph of Dominion this way anyway.
Yes, all correct, but not at all an influence on my issue.
I look at the damage done to the dummies at the arena.
I place GoD and watch the ticks of damage.
WITHOUT 150 on-hit ignite the damage starts at 7.9K and end at ~45k per tick, before the explosion.
WITH the on-hit ignite (and +12 spell damage) it starts at 10k and end at ~60k per tick.
The same thing happens with Frost Wall converted to fire.
EDIT: I repeated the test with a +10 spell damage item I had in the stash and first set of numbers becomes 9k to 48k, still not enough to discard the on-hit effect
Do you have the Fan the Inferno nodes specced in? (at the end of the fire conversion branch).
This would make your Glyph scale with Ignite Chance.
Same with Frostwall, the follow up node of the Fire Conversion does make it scale with ignite chance.
Yes, I do!
I did not read them to mean on-hit effects would apply to them, I assumed there was a chance to apply ignite every so often every amount of fire damage.
It just says “ignite chance”, so I completely discarded any on-hit affix.
