Ailment on hit chance

I think that the ailment on hit chance/ailment on hit chance with x skills differentiation is unnessesarily unclear, especially with other effects (like brands from runemaster, some skill nodes in warlock and most of the new dot spells) now having scaling with ailment chance.
It would make sense to me to remove one. I read some people complaining that ailments do not have an identity, so restricting them to a specific damage type would make some thematic sense. Obviously some items would need to accomodate that, like ladle. It would make the neutral ailments, like armor shred, kind of awkward though.
As a side node, I think some of the older “special” ailments, like spreading flame or plague, could use some love in form of some similar scaling.
