Active skill laboratory

I copied this text from Path of Exile forum to explain my idea

If you combine atoms, then you get molecules
The combination of elementary particles allows you to create countless variety

I talk about active skill laboratory

There should be some atoms:

  1. Fire
  2. lightning
  3. Cold
  4. AOE
  5. Chain
  6. Channeling
  7. Color

and so on

Combining these atoms togather you will be able to assemble any solid-active-skill
It should be erector set, it should be meccano for active skills

ONLY IN THIS CASE YOU CAN GET SUCH ACTIVE SKILLS:

I can’t resume playing POE bcoz of absence of my idea

While cool idea, it’s also very limiting.

There is a way to make skills procedural, PoE is half-way there, where your support gems can change behaviour of the skill, but procedural skills will never be as interesting as skills designed by designer…at least not now.

If system, as you described, would be implemented into the game, skills would be very very quickly too similar to each other - you would have sparks with different colors, aoe fields with different color - no theme, no gimmick.

Maybe one day but this is one of these ideas, which looks cool on paper but would not translate to interesting gameplay.

You want to custom create your own skills?
… You want the devs to throw away all the work they have put into skill trees of the current skills…
yeah i can say confidently that it’s not going to happen.

the “i can’t play POE because of abscence of idea”…
If you want this idea implemented that badly… make your own game.

Meccano ( Erector Set) conception is ONLY universal conception which will allow to reach the variety. The variety can be unlimited so the interest to the game can be unlimited since every new skill will be fresh thing

Your thought about colours is too simplified
In case of spark you can get - using laboratory - the next result:
If amount of sparks - around any monster is equal to 10 then they explode dealing encreased damage
OR - I can link spark skill with totem and if i wanna deal increased damage to unique boss i can install the totem near the boss and then this totem can attract sparks and when the amount of sparks become 10 the spark-clot explodes stunning the boss for a period of 3 second and so on - forget about colours - laboratory can allow you to create more quaint and ingenious skills

Yea, I hear you, but again, it’s all just amount of sparks, color, no matter what skill you would create, it’s just combination of some sort of particles, their color and amount. I also understand it could have many different mechanics but to really offer high amount of customization, the system had to be really robust, almost on level of developer tools - because if not, you will end up with many very similar skills.

For example, they recently revealed this shade skill, where something like tormented shade hover above your pet, slowly killing it but increasing it’s effectivity - yes, you could have just some sort of aura, icon above the head or anything to have same skill functionally but this one is thematic for class it is intended for. This bring a lot of flavor and depth for your character. You will very hardly achieve this with fully procedural system.
