Abomination is severely lacking

For the “best” necro skill it’s pretty bad. Slow, can’t leech because other minions kill first so can’t sustain. Sub par damage. It’s just forcing you to resummon minions every 2-3 minutes. This along with Dread Shade (also awful) need a rework.

I’m with you on the Abomination.

Dread Shade on the other hand is a skill I like a lot. You don’t always have to build it around the “decay your own minions” stuff. Often I use it to cast on enemies and either buff melee minions in range or ranged minions out of range.

It’s a really strong buff as it grands “more” damage to minions (60% I think).

There must be a way to make abomination work well, I just have not put the effort in to find it yet.
I feel like abomination is there for the people who want to go all minions as far as skills are concerned thats why it benefits from different minion types, it may get updated when volatile zombie comes in.
Dread shard is fine in my opinion.

I don’t like the Abomination in combination with other minions. It’s just so tedious to use.

  • Summon minions
  • Summon Abomination and consume the summoned minions
  • Resummon minions

This prep phase is just to complicated for the short duration the Abomination is alive.

There’s a cool Abomination build from @Zeckar just in case you are interested:

I strongly disagree.

Assemble Abomination is just not “another summon skill”, it’s a very unique and different.
And that’s exactly what necromaner needs, because all the summon do play very similar, since we don’t have any active component.

If you don’t like it, that’s fine. But for me personally this, together with Wraith and the upcoming Volatile Zombies is exactly what it takes to make a summoner interesting.

Instead of giving you a bunch of “different” minions, that only differ in size, but don’t actively play very different, this is exactly what i want necro to have.

If you don’t like it, that’s fine. But to be fair, there are quiet some build changing nodes in the Skill Spec Tree, (like you no longer need to channel the ability yourself).

Also Dread Shade is suuuuuuuper strong and has quiet a few different applications, you probably just didn’t found them yet.

TL:DR: It’s fine, if you don’t like it, play something else IMO.

Thanks for linking my build haha:)

In response to OP, there are actually many applications to Abomination and even more that I’m sure I haven’t played with. I’m probably the most familiar with the skill as I’ve pushed Arena and monoliths with multiple variations of Abomination. For me the skill is very interesting and awesome, but just lacks proper tree support. The tree has little to offer with the various routes and consumption variations, but as I stated no one really has played with the skill to the extent I have. And I’m only one person, so probably a lot left to discover haha. I would love to see some changes to the skill to give it more viable and simpler options as a main or even support skill!

Dread Shade is probably one of the best skills in the game in my opinion. I think the only thing that competes is maybe Decoy, but the uptime on Dread Shade is far better. It loses cause of the necessity for other skills to be effective.

Then it is my part to strongly disagree with you.

Abomination is a great skill on paper and theme wise. But mechanically it is one of the clunkiest skills in the game. I’m not arguing that it is a weak skill or even useless. But it is defenitely not a skill I would anybody point to if I got asked “what’s the best necro skill”. It is a very unpopular skill and that’s for a reason.

Yes it forces a more active playstyle than other minion builds. But it is over acting in that regard. It’s far from being comparable to the smooth Primalist playstyle with minion abilities.

Using that skill kills any flow you have with a Necro.

Ok I take it back about Dread Shade. It’s good, I just hadn’t investigated enough. Abomination on the other hand I’m sticking with the original assessment. If there was some way to sustain better then I’d say it’s good. Or some other trade off, I don’t know what. Because it’s just not as good as other minions and I have no reason to choose it over them. The clunkiness of resummoning everything is not worth it.

I worked together one of the easiest to put together amnd longer lasting versions of him here:

While he lacks damage he still does enough to beat the game here

Perhaps it will inspire you to try the non channeled versiom

Appreciate it, looks good. It’s just the resummoning my other minions every 2-3 minutes. They’re still better and that just makes the gameplay too rough. There has to be some kind of benefit here and it’s just not enough of one.

Ive posted a fair bit of feedback about Abomination and ideas to improve such as unique items to make it playable. im not going to go over it but my ideas were

  • amulet to auto revive it on death
    or
  • amulet to remove the degen

Amulet slot is due to Death Rattle existing

both at the cost of being able to summon other minions in actual battle - when you summon Abomination the other active minions die and vice versa. As it stands its too tedious to play

Actually those who want active gameplay usually don’t play necromancer minion builds. A summoner is a master puppeteer. He just summons, buffs and revives.

Maybe Abomination would be nice as a low tier skill but being so high in Necromancer’s passive tree one would expect a bit more from it.

I just played Abomination 8 hours straight on stream and i had the best time of my life playing a summoner build.

This skill is soooooooooo statisfiying.

The pure fact, that even for a Necromaner this skill “feels” so different makes me happy.

The weird minion AI is the only thing that makes it less enjoyable, since especially on a “few summons” build, having your summoner doing some weird stuff and not attacking for like 1-2 seconds is way more grave.

But overall, when we get a Minion AI overhaul this will be probably a build i would actually enjoy even more.

I also like that it’s a Necromancer exclusive skill.
The theme is just soooo fitting.
And the possiblities with this skill are basically unlimited, the skill tree is crazy.

At least one person likes this skill.

For the vast majority of people giving feedback about the skill since it was implemented, the skill doesn’t feel good.

You took it as a challenge to prove that the skill is viable. This is the case and it was before.

For me this wasn’t the argument.

Maybe you will find some builds you like. But for me personally the only route is to maximise the Abominations duration and decrease the decay rate. If you get it to live a few minutes it is less of a chore.

But this already takes a decent amount of skillpoints you can’t use to make other interesting stuff.

I don’t see why I should play an Abomination skill over a skeletons or mass wraiths build. It’s not effective because of the preperation time.

I see the chat in MP sessions already “Wait for me, I have to resummon my Abom… where are you? Aw… too late.”

Yeah, but Heavy likes Harvest, I’m not sure the guy’s taste in skills can really be trusted, do you?

Wait what? When did i do that?

I am a huuuuuge advocate for Hipster playstyles!

Ok, I was just lying to get more people on my side! :snake:

Dessssssssssssssssssssciving

But to get back on topic, i will probably push my own Abomination build a bit more and i am thinking about puting out a guideline for my build idea, just to give people some inspiration, that can’t get this skill working

Maybe when i have all the gear together i can even try one or two other methods out, but the method i am currently sticking to works sooo good already.
