A New Chapter for Eleventh Hour Games

I agree, fellow red pill person, but that’s psychology at a much higher level than just EHG, isn’t it
Most companies and people will try to smooth things out like this, and as much as I think the world would be a better place if people were just up front and said “check big, I took it”, it’s something we’ll have to accept and grumble at ^^

The worst part for me? I just spent days buildcrafting and testing builds and now I just want to uninstall and dust my hands of this game before I get burned. Back to Titan Quest and Grim Dawn. Hopefully Crate will never sell out like this

So you’re telling me my favorite studio is getting more resources, growing their team and staying the same? This is awesome news. It just means more content for me to play.

Congrats to you awesome guys and gals. So excited for the future of this game. Normally with mergers/buyouts like this I’d be worried, but knowing the leadership and the team of this game I have zero concerns as I know they’ll have made the right decision.

That being said - give me a trailer for Season 3

Hey @Moxjet200

I believe this is a HUGE mistake especially considering the massive backlash Krafton is currently facing (rightfully so) due to their handling of Unknown Worlds and Subnautica. Krafton completely mishandled the situation: they fired the founders, undermined the development team, and “allegedly” deprived them of $250 million. There’s an ongoing lawsuit over it!

Now you’re partnering with the very same people who have clearly demonstrated a willingness to betray their partners. What made Last Epoch strong and appealing was its independence and the fact that it was led by the people who love the ARPG scene and not focus on how can we milk these players for money. I promise you no matter how confident you are that it won’t happen there will be revenue targets and monetary goals imposed. Sooner or later, gameplay will be sacrificed in favor of profit, because Krafton is here to make money, not to be your friend.

I don’t understand why you did this or why you felt it was necessary. It’s a bad decision, especially given that Krafton is literally being sued for financially exploiting their game studios.

Hey @Moxjet200 ,

While I’m also concerned about where this is going to go, due to the whole Subnautica 2 thing, I get what it’s like being a developer (though thankfully not an indie developer in gaming; I’m at least in enterprise and have a stable job, though I’ve been laid off 3 times and am currently between jobs with a verbal offer waiting on the paperwork).

So that being said: Congratulations! I hope you and the other founders made bank on this (probably not going to be a popular opinion sadly).

If things go great, then you can both earn a bunch of money and also keep working on your passion project.

If things go badly, then at least you made a bunch of money and if you end up parting ways with Krafton (or they decide to part ways with you, ugh), you’ll have a nice nest egg to work on your next project!

I’m looking forward to both the future of Last Epoch and Eleventh Hour Games, and whatever you end up working on next if it doesn’t work out.

Thanks for everything you’ve done. I’m wishing you all the best and I hope you and the team get to do everything you want to do with the game. Even if this goes terribly wrong I still have over 500 hours in this game which is the 4th highest game in my entire library (PoE, Black Desert, and Rimworld are the top 3).

You might think that’s not really that important but I have a problem. I have 1754 games. Last Epoch is #4 in my top played. That is significant.

I hope to play another 500 hours! Honestly I hope that Last Epoch becomes my #1 game because PoE is great, but there are things about it where I feel it just doesn’t respect me and my time, while Last Epoch does. I hope that continues.

Thanks for all the great memories so far and good luck and I hope to keep playing in the future!

Edit: After re-reading after posting, this reads like I’m giving up, but that’s not the case. I actually genuinely am looking forward to what you can accomplish with more resources, and hopefully more guidance from a larger publisher/developer. There are obviously a lot of optimizations you just haven’t been able to focus on, and having both a larger team and specifically a team you can work with who has worked on large scale multiplayer games, should really help improve Last Epoch for the better.

No. No no. No no no…
What the hell?
Are you guys in that much financial trouble?
You guys are the only company that makes an ARPG specifically aimed at my interests.
You make amazing decisions and actually listen and change things based on feedback, look at trade for instance, i never wanted trade in the ARPG i played, i just about gave up hope when you announced you were adding it to LE but you managed to make it work by actually listening to the player base.
Being small and listening to the community made you unique, made your game actually fun! I’m sure you sacrificed some of your visions to make LE into what the player base wanted it to be, but that made you better. Other companies stick to their visions even when its against what the player base wants.

This feels like the beginning of the end of LE. Is there any way we can get some kind of local/offline only permanent version of the game? Maybe the option to refund or something?
IMHO current players should either be able to get a permanent version of what they paid for or be able to ask for their money back.

Once upon a time there were many companies that i trusted/believed in and believed would make something good, even if it looked bad at the time.
Over the last 10-15 years, the number of companies i trust/believe in has dwindled down to two. I guess now it’s down to one. Another amazing indie company swallowed by a corporation who just wants to milk them for all their money then kill them and erase them from history.
I don’t know how long LE/EHG has left now but i hope your workers can all find jobs quickly.

Sincerely, a disappointed, previously loyal, LE Player.

The slightest wiff of p2w or even more goofy skins than we currently have and I’m out.

Okay guys, the new offices are in Seoul. You have two weeks to move.

I believe steam lets you download past version for offline play. You just have to then do some stuff to keep it from being auto updated.

Yeah, i’m looking into this atm actually. thinking i might just keep a local copy somewhere on a backup drive.

im curious to why EHG even felt the need for a publisher after all this time, let alone Krafton.

Maybe they will help with mobile/console side of things?

Either way if you start adding panda skins and maid costumes, im dippin out xD

What a disappointment.

I’m not going through repeat what others have already pointed out. Them saying that they will leave you alone to do your thing is a lie unless it’s written somewhere. Really sad day.

How long are you going to perform this charade before monetizing historically un-monetized features of the game (such as stash tabs and character slots) or implementing other egregious microtransactions to appease the shareholders? I do not believe whatsoever that Krafton is doing this out of the goodness of their own hearts.

I give it less than a year before we start seeing dramatic changes to the revenue model. I would love to be proven wrong.

The most important thing is that ye haven complete control, so that no one can replace any of thine employees without thy permission, otherwise it will all end badly. There is a scandal with this company now, and it is unlikely that they are on the right side of justice. I do not know of any decent companies, except perhaps the one that already worketh with ye or POE, who would have money and not destroy everything around them for profit.

I can’t really see this going anywhere positive. It’s been seen over and over again that these type of acquisitions always hurt the consumer in the end especially with a company as notorious as Krafton.

I do really appreciate you telling us long before the season start though as it means I don’t have to think about if I want to play this season.

Ask the Subnautica team about Krafton’s ‘hands off approach’. They also got promised much the same thing.

I worry about you guys. Krafton has proven themselves untrustworthy in the gaming industry. I don’t want my favorite ARPG game to go down the Diablo Immortal route, which seems to be Krafton’s general business model.

Was this really a necessary move? Is there still time to back out before Krafton fires you and replaces you with out of touch Gatcha managers?

You guys brought something to the industry it was sorely lacking. Fun. It didn’t require a PhD like PoE did, it was more fulfilling than the Diablo franchise has become. It hit a marvelous middle ground with nearly limitless possibilities while still being user friendly. It was the first time I had truly enjoyed an ARPG experience since D2 LOD.

I don’t want that taken from me. I don’t want Krafton to fire you guys like they did the Subnautica team, and replace you with what is effectively the Diablo Immortal team. They promised the Subnautica team the same thing. They lied. There’s now a huge lawsuit pending.

Please, please, please reconsider before it is too late.

No.

No no no no no… My heart sunk reading this. They’re going to chew you guys up and spit you out.

Did you not see what they did with Unknown Worlds? These guys are snakes. You’ve made a terrible mistake. Can you walk it back? Is there still time? Get out of there, man.

Capitalism died a long ago. Right now it’s parasitism. People simply do not undestand that.
