Sure, individual comments can go over the line… like it usually does in such situations.
But they’re also coming from a relatable place.
Last Epoch has been promised initially with several end-game systems (all non-existent yet), 12 chapters and more at release.
Obviously that’s not the case.
But even at release it’s not 1.0 worthy at all. The campaign isn’t finished. Progression in the campaign is spotty at best, transition from campaign to end-game and transitions inside the end-game are also everything but solid.
Then the devs go along to sell their product before providing their initial promises.
This is disingenious, so they deserve severe flak for it, it’s a breach of trust to do that.
They said ‘we’ll do that’, then didn’t do it and instead get paid out to potentially leave before finishing the task. We could even argue it’s a breach of contract already as the release version was promised to be substantially different in content depth alone. So it’s not coming from nowhere.
But yeah, there’s limits to everything and I agree, some things are not acceptable.
The review bombing for the acquisition itself is not acceptable either… it’s acceptable to provide a negative review for the state of the game in total… but not for the acquisition itself. It can play a part but it alone is a big ‘no’ for that as we have a offline client accessible for it, so future changes have no effect on us.
Your words ring true…they would ring more true if 90% of the people commenting are talking specifically about Subnautica. It sucks that they ruined Tera, but PUBG is still in the top 5 played games on steam at most times. So one bad example (Tera) vs one fantastic one (pubg). sorry if that’s not enough to convince me leave hate reviews on Steam and doom-and-gloom their announcement post
First of all the PUBG situation is different. They didn’t push the product into the ground - yet - but instead have fraudulent business practices.
Specifically the last thing that happened was a loot box advertisment with a guarantee of a ‘pity-system’ meaning you get one of the skins in 1 of 5 tries with guarantee. The actual rate was set to 9% though which is obviously not 20%. So false advertising.
The second part is that Krafton is responsible for providing the resources to create a working anti-cheat system, which they haven’t done. This caused PUBG to be severely infested with cheaters, to a degree it puts even Escape from Tarkov to shame, which 2 years ago had a common count of 2 cheaters per instance. A baffling number.
Those are sheer magnitudes which are not acceptable. Yes, FPS games are prone to third party tools intercepting information because of the server structures needed to allow the split-second reactions needed… but there’s still limits.
This means the publisher isn’t doing what the job of the publisher is, which is to provide resources to ensure a fluid continuation of the service in a long-term manner. Or in terms of single player projects the resources to allow finishing the product in a high qualitative state. In return they get substantial amounts of revenue from those outcomes.
That’s their job in reality.
What Krafton instead does is ‘milking the market’ like many others. When profit is achieved they try to alleviate any influx of money while ramping up profits as much as possible, no matter the cost long-term or sometimes even short-term.
This goes counter to their job.
What you’re describing is why these live service monetary models actually work. If anything, people refusing to go along with its worst expressions is excellence and above average intelligence. Should all aspire to be informed and deliberate consumers.
And they ade making these judgements based on kraftons past that was the point of the person u qouted…
And is exactly why ur seeing all this backlash. There was a some backlash when they announced the 10 cent deal. Its no where near what this dealing is brewing up. Reason is 10 cent has a better reputation than krafton does.
Iv been around since day one of this game dropping into EA. I my self as well as a huge chunk of players have lost trust in the future of this game. It all has to do with the company they sold everything to. Yes EHG is now owned by krafton.
Not to mention: Tencent was an investor. And while that does mean “keep the investor happy”, the investor has no control over the company outside of the threat of pulled funding.
Krafton is now the owner of EHG. People don’t seem to understand what that means. If Krafton decides that it’s in the game’s “best interest” to limit in-game purchasable stash tabs and go the PoE route of making them micro-transactions, then we’re getting micro transaction stash tabs. Sure, EHG can try to push back and argue against the decision, but as the parent company, with EHG being a wholly owned and operated subsidiary, Krafton has the final say.
Damn. Just when things were looking up. Y’all had to go and fuck up a good thing. I really hope you selling out doesn’t screw the game over. You guys have done an amazing job but I’m worried that was all for nothing now.
Like many many other things. People don’t get taught how to learn nowadays, they get taught to memorize, and that’s severely detrimental in modern society.
It was great when the common job was working in a factory and hence having singular tasks repeated for months or years… but in a society where highly adaptable positions are at the forefront it’s just a net negative.
Pattern recognition especially is something which most people don’t learn to use. Albeit I gotta say I have a massive unfair advantage in that area since I’ve got AuDHD which specializes in pattern recognition through my brain makeup… leads to those novels I write though as on the downside I can’t discern priorities in communication.
But this is not something which you need to have a mental disability for to recognize, this is basic crap, not in-depth game-design aspects which the results are based on high ability of pattern recognition to find out why and how things function and get well received in conjunction to each other after hundreds of hours of in-depth research through excessive interest in the topic. This is something a 75 IQ person should be able to realize after less then an hour… which makes it baffling that it’s still entirely missed or ignored so often.
Which is baffling by how bad the rep of Tencent actually is. To know that there’s companies out there which go vastly below that line even and aren’t simply dismantled by law for their doings and instead actually see success in what they do… which is why they keep doing it.
Not even that. Imagine you as a clerk going to the big boss and trying to argue about something they decided will be done.
How likely do you think they’ll listen… and even more so what do you think will happen to your position in short manner? ‘Oh, this person can’t even follow along company orders without wasting work-time? Better get rid now then later!’ and off you go all too soon.
I don’t fault you for taking the money and running while trying to paint a rosy picture. But the way this is going to go is this:
Leave you alone for 6-12 months to let you meet agreed upon release schedule.
If that release happens and meets X goals then either let you keep going to next release or maybe start suggesting you flesh out the MTX cosmetics.
More pressure on cosmetic MTX over additional actual playable content.
Sales/content starts decreasing because the ratio of playable vs cosmetic content shifts to favor the latter which chases away the people who supported you.
Drop in sales and retention and your Korean overlords do what Korean game overlords do. The force your shops to now incorporate pay to win mechanics thus bringing you in line with 90% of Korean games released and I hope that 96 million was worth your souls and dreams.
Again I don’t fault you for taking the money. It’s your payoff after 8 years. I do fault you for doing the usual corporate PR trying to paint this as all sunshine lollipops and rainbows. Yes they’ve said all the right things to you…for now. But the countdown timer has started until they force you to do things you don’t want to. Just ask the Subnautica founders. I can tell you right now with this announcement my interest is almost gone entirely when it comes to this game. I’m tired of big corps screwing with devoted devs and the games I love. I prefer to support mostly indie/small studio games vs’s large corporation games which is what you were. Guess what you’ve just become now though. You just sold your soul to the devil and it’s only a matter of time before they collect. I have no interest in being around when that happens. Thankfully the Grim Dawn dev’s Crate seem to have no interest in selling their souls so they can ALWAYS control their games and their direction.
I feel really bad for those who work at EHG. The bosses can just sell & dump away with golden parachutes, but the developers who joined an indie developer out of passion are soon going to see their dream project desfigured by pure corporate greed.
Exactly right. People often don’t know what a fiduciary responsibility is. If LE isn’t making the projections and expectations their company, thus what their investors wants, then they’re going to make changes. It doesn’t matter if EHG thinks the game is doing well monetarily, cos now it’s all about what Krafton thinks and their standards of revenue. They will compare LE earnings with other Korean games in the market and will want more of the cake. They also want to justify spending investors money on a game.
And Krafton having full control of the brand, if they have to add P2W MTX into the shop, they will, cos at the end of the day, even Krafton has to respond to their investors. With so many of their ventures failing, they’re more pressured to “make good” on this purchase. They will, without skipping a heartbeat destroy the integrity of the game, implement highly addictive monetization models to increase their investors ROI to ensure they keep their multi-million salary jobs.
It’s sad to see what once was a game marketed as “a game for gamers, made by gamers” use such plastic corpo PR speak. It’s disappointing, but not surprising. If you’re willing to sell your game to a corpo slop publisher, it just shows me your marketing ploy at the start was nothing but lies. But hey, congrats on your payday. I hope those millions of dollars are enough for you to forget what crap you did here. I won’t be spending any money on this game. I was planning on getting some MTX this new season, now I’ll just save it for something else. I’ve already uninstalled LE from my PC and I won’t be participating in cycle 3, as I refuse to be part of this now corpo slop game. Thanks for nothing.
I’m felling kinda bad right now, these news mostly killed the excitement I had for next season…
There is plenty of negativity on is thread already so I wont add to the pile. I really wish the best for you guys and the game I enjoy, but these news definitely made me lose hope for this game in the long run!
This is the worst news I have ever heard for this game. Just when I thought this game was going to get better… they sell out. They were getting closer and closer to being the best. WOW. Terrible. Terrible news Moxjet200. I been your game VERY early in Steam EA. I am not happy at all.
