A couple QoL suggestions for loot filter system

As title states, the lack of these features in the loot filter detracts from it’s usability, makes it a bit tedious to use in some cases and also difficult to effectively use to farm for multiple characters at once with a single filter.

There is no way in a filter rule to add “AND” statements

In a rule once you add a type of filter to the rule, you cannot add an additional one. This means that if I want to filter by say an item that has a resistance type and an attribute and emphasize those items I cannot do it. In terms of multiple class farming this could help by highlighting items with prerolled resistances and then change color based on attributes of the item to choose the color associated with the class. Or if I want a specific damage type mod for sure and then will take a variety of other damage mods as long as it has the specific one it’s not possible ( flat bow phys AND ((bleed chance) OR (% phys) OR (armor shred)))

There is no way to copy a rule in a filter

This one is what makes building out a filter so tedious. If I have a “General” affix group it would be nice if I could copy that “General” group and then either add additional acceptable affixes for the class or make it more specific by type of item that it drops on. While I could export the filter and edit it manually that defeats the purpose of having an easy to use interface and not having to use an IDE to create an acceptable filter. This could also be implemented by having sub-rules that fall under a specific rule but I think it’d take far less effort to just add a rule copy button.

There is no way to specify a rule have more than one of the selected affixes

This is similar to the AND statement mentioned above but different enough that I think it could be viewed as something separate and easier to use. Essentially it’d be nice to have a way to put in that it should catch a rule only if there is X amount of the selected affixes. Kind of like how there is a tier filter where it needs Y tier level to be caught by the rule but instead it need X number match, e.g. (((flat bow phys) AND (% phys)) OR ((flat bow phys) AND (bleed chance)) OR ((% phys) AND (bleed chance)))

All of these in combination would make it incredibly easy to set up target farming late game when very specific bases are needed for various characters and would offer quite a bit of quality of life to the system.

Apologies if these have been discussed before I didn’t find anything with a basic search.

Hello there!

These suggestions have been raised quite frequently actually and I’m sure the devs are well aware of them. But no worries raising them

Agreed on all. You can copy a rule if you go into the XML directly, but for most people that’s uncomfortable/easy to mess up. Unless they’re interested in making a more human-readable version (like PoE’s item filter ‘language’) that they can then parse into XML to import, in which case it doesn’t matter as much if the in-game filter editor lacks this functionality. It is definitely nice to be able to edit the filter in-game, though.

Other things that would be nice to see (tl;dr, more or less, is look at PoE’s item filter flexibility, but these are the key ones):

  • Other ways of emphasizing an item, primarily changing the font size, possibly adding minimap icons/light beams like currently exist for uniques
  • More precision with affix tier selection (e.g. Tier 5+ of A, B, and C, or Tier 4+ of D and E)
  • Ability to look for empty affixes
  • Lower priority, but the possibility to add sounds on drop (just a selection of different tones, allowing custom sounds to be used is unnecessary imo)

The biggest issue for me is that item filters just don’t work sometimes. Usually this is after making a change, it takes several minutes or multiple zones before it stops highlighting random crap. It’s awkward to sit there, open and close my inventory or pick up and drop items, and watch them get highlighted or hidden apparently at random for a while. If there is a delay before filter updates happen, that needs to be clear to the user instead of getting bizarre behavior for a while first and making people think their filters are wrong.
