Hey,
I know that these days there’s no real motivation or seeming benefit for developers to make it possible for their game to be “truly offline,” so I would just like to give a HUGE shout out and thank you to these devs for making that happen. That was my biggest complaint about Diablo 3 (and now 4)…that there was no ability to really play them offline (on the PC version anyway, with the Battlenet app). It’s one of the primary reasons (out of MANY reasons) that I always thought Diablo 2 was the best entry of the entire series.
Do I plan on playing this game online? Absolutely. I’ve got a super fast fiber connection and play many other games online. But, there are many different situations a gamer may have where offline play is necessary.
The morning Last Epoch’s 1.0 patch was released, I was on a Navy stealth ship ready to leave port. I was about to be on a mission for a week out in the Pacific Ocean with ZERO connectivity. I downloaded 1.0 onto my Steam Deck and put my Steam Deck into “offline mode” literally right before we went underway. I had so many instances in the afternoons and evenings during that time where, when the ops were done for the day, this game kept being in those Navy triple-bunk berthing conditions actually somewhat bearable.
That’s all due to the devs giving us an ability to play this game offline. I’m now hooked on playing this game BECAUSE it had an offline mode that allowed me to play it when I had an opportunity to play a game–without any connectivity.
My parents live out in the Midwest in the middle of nowhere with zero cell or internet coverage…If I go to visit them and I have an instance in the evenings after they go to bed for the night where I can game, I’ll be in the exact same situation. FINALLY, some devs that “get it.” Yes, many people have access to internet. Yes, so do I. Yes, my internet is pretty much the best of the best. But, you know what? For anyone who actually leaves their home or travels or goes to places that have low population counts or military members who get deployed or any number of other legitimate reasons…there WILL be a time when you don’t always have access to that connection.
And in those times, this game is still here for you.
For that, I salute you. You’ve earned my respect for taking the time to include that option in this game.
Thank you.
