2 questions on "Reflected Damage"

  1. On Armor, shields and a unique relic, you can find “% of damage reflected”.
Does the damage retain its “Type” when reflected? i.e. Fire, Lightning, Physical, Void, etc.
  • If not, what is it converted to?
  • If it retains, then will the proper Increased damage nodes (Passives, affixes) scale that damage?
  1. Forge Guard passive tree has the Thornmail node. What damage “Type” is this damage and how would it scale?

Thanks.

I would assume that %damage reflected does retain the element but since there’s no way to scale it, aside from reducing your armour/resists, it’s a moot point.

The damage from Thornmail is physical and will scale with %physical damage.

Hmm, I would have expected it to handle “reflected” damage as damage your character deals (for coding simplicity) and thus, obey any scaling your character has, rather than some sort of actual reflection of the monster’s damage back to it.

For example, if I only reflect 50% damage, it has to at least calculate the amount, and in that calculation, it has the opportunity to add my scaling if they wanted to add it.

I think a character’s damage scaling should apply to reflected damage, as it makes for interesting build options.

My understanding is that you have a % reflect, the damage calculation runs though & when it gets to deducting your hp/ward, it does that then applies the % to the amount of hp/ward you lost & deals that damage to the mob.

I just mean that if I have 300% increased Physical Damage, and I get hit for 100 physical damage (with 100% reflect), then I should deal 400 damage to the monster which hit me.

I know where you’re coming from & I don’t disagree with you, but that’s not how they’ve coded it to work, presumably because it’s not “your” damage.

Technically, it is my damage.
Monster hits me.
My armor says “Oh yeah! Take THIS!”
My armor hits them back.

It technically is totally me.

p.s. I have a character with 235% reflected damage, so the extra damage is totally coming from me.

I know where you’re coming from, but that’s not how the game treats it. It’s more akin to your armour playing an Uno reverse card. Someone slaps you with a draw 2 card, you reverse it, they then have to draw 2, but the draw 2 card wasn’t yours, you didn’t play it you “just” played a card that changed who it was directed at (which is where the analogy breaks down, since in LE you still take the damage).

That’s how I view it 'cause that’s how it works in-game, regardless of how we may or may not wish it worked.

I need to figure out if “% Damage Leeched on Hit” will leech life from reflected damage. If so, then I’d think the damage is mine, and counts as my hit.

It shouldn’t, but equip an Exsanguinous with no resists/etc & see if your hp moves after it settles down.

You’re right, no leech from Reflected Damage.
I’ll amend my Suggestion.
