2 Handers

So uh what am I missing here? Other than 2 handed staffs (staves) I have not used one on a character. They take up the most stash space at home and on the road. Is there a reason to look at these? or can I pretty much empty my stash of them at this point?

Confessing I don’t usually like the play-style of 2 handed melee. Is it good in this game?

as @Llama8 will will probly have better @Llama8 advice, im going to tag @Llama8 so he can go over some of @Llama8 2 handed builds

there are a few classes/ builds that do really well with them and sometimes its better to go with them than take 12% MORE damage.

An example is Earthquake on Primalist. Using a 2 handed weapon along with primalist passive in the top of the tree can give up to 50 addional flat damage on EVERY attack. Thats pretty huge.

Forge Guard has some passives that give specific buffs to 2 handed weapons that make them feel much better and wearing one can even double the ailment chances of another passive in its bottom half.

I myself like Dual Wielding, but 2 handers, even in there current form, still have uses.

Thanks that’s a GOOD reply. Then my next question would be which ones should I be keeping and which can I ditch? Like I said they take up huge space (actually really dislike that inventory approach but that’s for another thread).

While 2-Handers are definitely in a weird place, i personally like to use them.

They are offensively still alot better than 1H + Shield, but weaker than DW offensively.

The only unique thing 2-Handed Melee weapons (excluding Staff) have, that makes them stand out is the defensive suffix “of Impunity”, which gives up to “50% less damage taken from critical strikes”.

This basically is equal to 100% CSA, but only takes 1-affix. (Even though, one could argue that 2-Hander affix could get seens as “two affixes”, since 2-Hander affix have almost twice the value for most cases, compared to 1 Handers).
But still getting such a strong defensive affix on a weapon slot feels kinda nice.

This does spare you 3 T5 CSA affixes or 1 T5 CSA Affix + Grand CSA Blessing from the Reign Of Dragons Timeline.

Does it make 2-Handers super strong? No, but i still like it, because i have a blessing and/or up to 3 suffix slot more freedom.

Depending on the class you play :), Sentinels get CSA on armor as base.

If i would always list all the special cases all my posts would be twice as long.

Whilethere are often special cases, even on a sentinel you have one more blessing or suffix slot for other defensive affixes.

Thx for the replies guys. No one actually answered my 2nd question which was what should I be keeping? They drop as exalteds constantly and take up a hell of a lot of room. What are the affixes to look for?

That really depends on your class and the build you want to play, I’m not sure there is a global answer.

I would also like to mention a benefit of using 2 handed weapons can be the unique chest piece Titan’s Heart. It gives 15% all damage reduction when wielding 2handed weapon and 30%+ max health and melee damage.

You can use last epoch tools or the in-game loot filter to look at the base types for a better idea on what 2 handed is worth keeping for you. In general Polearms are for minion / critical hit builds, Axes are for minion / ailment builds, Maces are for non critical hit / stun builds, and Swords are for minion / attack speed builds.

Here is the build planner if you want to look at gear options:

Oh… maybe because this question cannot be answered in general. This all depends on your build.

If you’re going for a crit build you may wanna use polearms, since they have an implicit base crit chance modifier.

What class/mastery are you using? What is your build?

I usually don’t take blunt weapons because the stun chance doesn’t scale too well into lategame (stun chance formular relies on enemy hp). Attack speed is also low.

Theres an all Attributes affix for 2h weapons that is ok. But I’ll mainly aim for flat damage (of that kind you are mainly scaling with your build) and increased damage (same type).

I have a not fleshed out 2h bleed sentinel running. Not using all the passive bleed nodes, yet. Dual wield sword and axe works pretty awesome for bleed and I doubt this one can compete. But I try it because I wanna know.

I’m really thorn between weapon types. I love DW, but also 2h style wise. And since the new shield updates this is also absolutely nice.

I’d like to see more passive talents that buff certain weapon choices. There already are a few, but I’d like to see even more.
