100% crit

I was just wondering if it’s possible to achieve 100% crit chance.
The reason I’m asking is that I thought I had it but I still get normal hits sometimes, even against the dummy and I can’t check it since I’m using Hammer Throw and the character sheet doesn’t list throwing crit chance for some reason(something you should add btw).
I’m using Hammer Throw with Enra’s Technique and Hammer Vortex which gives me 4% extra base crit and I’m also using a Raider Axe with a 5% crit implicit, which should give a total of 14% base crit.
I then have a total of 500% throwing crit chance and 130% increased crit chance which should mean 1(base) + 5 + 1.3 x 14 = 102.2% crit chance.
Is there something wrong with my calculation or is there a max value to crit?
And before you ask, there are no melee/spell crit chance or skill specific crit chance mods, it’s either throwing attack or just increased(which I assume is global), I’ve trippled checked.

it’s 14% base; 500% + 130% = 630%

so 14 + 630% = 88,2%

increased% means + on top, more% means multiplicate

14 + (630% of 14) is 102,2, it doesn’t matter if you calculate

14 x (1+5+1,3)

or

14 + (14 x 630 / 100)

Exactly. So I’m guessing it wasn’t a mechanical thing I had missed and instead something I should perhaps post in the bug subforum?

i don’t know, maybe there is still some mathmagic we are missing. are you sure you don’t proc any DoTs?

I am proccing dots and I know they can’t crit but I’ve tried attacking the training dummy, my crits do 23-35k but I still get normal hits at 7-10k and my dots do something like 80 damage or so and I should still see a crit every time I hit the dummy anyways.

ok i see. maybe there is some other stuff, but i have not that much experience with sentinel, and zero with hammer throw, so i can’t help with that further.

oh yes, i didn’t add another 14%

i play a throwing sentinel, hammer throw crits much less then shield throw and i have no shield throw affix an my gear

If you could load your character into the build planner and post the link we can see what’s going on since from the info you’ve given you should be critting all the time.

I don’t suppose you’re in monoliths and have chosen a crit avoidance modifier?

Yes. My current rogue is 100% crit, I only ever see a white number if I hit a dummy and dot applies but it also has 24% base crit

No crit avoidance from monolith and my main testing is against the training dummy so no monolith mods matter anyway right?

So back home. I changed my gear to get 100,1% crit chance with Hammer Throw, skilled Enra’s Technique too. I also get white numbers (no dots) on the dummy. With Shield Throw i see only yellow numbers.

Maybe there is an issue with Enra’s Technique or the toolip is missleading?

I thought that it could be something with Enra’s too. Check the skills tags to see if they have changed maybe? Would be wrong, but I could see the orbit thing dropping the “throwing attack”.

Skill tag still has Throwing Attack and I still get a dps boost from my old chest which had throwing crit chance and no other damage mods, so it definitely still counts as a throwing attack, I just don’t think Enra’s Technique base crit is working.
I’ve done some testing attacking the dummy, two sets of 100 and first I crit 70/100 and second I hit 75/100, which would make sense if Enra’s Technique didn’t work since I’d have 73% crit chance without it.

Maybe there is a discrepancy when it comes to the formula? The crit chance is spread out through gear, the skill itself, and the passive tree. Maybe some base crit chance isn’t getting multiplied by all of the crit chance % because of calculation ordering.

I thought that maybe the Raider Axe base crit wasn’t affected by throwing crit since that’s what most of my increased crit is from but I get a significant more dps boost from using it and I checked using my old chest that only has throwing attack crit to see how dps increase it would give.
Your comment gave me an idea however. I checked the numbers and the dps increase I got from the chest was almost exactly doubled, +1003 without the axe, +2005 with the axe.
Added a bunch more crit from idols to see if there was any change, +883 without axe, +1766 with it, exactly double dps, which makes me think I doubled my base crit from 5 to 10, further increasing my suspicion that the added base crit from Enra’s Technique isn’t working.
I would try test to spec out of the node if it wasn’t for the fact that my whole build revolves around it and the node behind it.

Shield Throw has also a 4% base crit from the skill tree and it works. I have also a Raider Axe with 5% base crit. No white numbers from hits on the dummy with 100,1% crit chance.
Hammer Throw should deliver the same result, but there are white hit numbers, every 4-6th hit on the dummy.

So for me there can be only two reasons:

  1. the skill is calculated wrong in combat with Enra’s
  2. the tooltip is missleading because they made a mistake like chaining gives us 4% crit and orbit 40% crit multi for examble

It wouldn’t be the first time that a skill node wasn’t working. This is what bug reports are for (as the OP has already posted).
