0.9 Swipe Spirit Wolves

This is a great change to what they were before 0.9. I remember first playing the game and being disappointed in their implementation, but now they’re both a lot more interesting and an absolute powerhouse. Personally one of the highest DPS potential builds I’ve come across.

Only problem is they feel a bit clunky, so I suggest adding/changing nodes to make it feel better to use. After doing a campaign run with it, here are some things I wish I had access to:

  • Some accessible way to increase their area of effect. Maybe in Swipe tree, maybe in the Beastmaster passive tree. I think the better skill trees include augmentation for both main skill and subskills in the same node, so perhaps the node that provides increased area of effect to Swipe should also affect Spirit Wolves (not necessarily the damage multiplier part though).

  • A node to change how either Spirit Wolves or the wolves themselves target. Currently the Spirit Wolves shoot straight in the direction the wolf is facing, which works most of the time but sometimes feels very inefficient or ineffective, especially when the wolves themselves are in the middle of moving to a new target or to catch up with the character. Maybe a node that makes the Spirit Wolf target an enemy nearest to the wolf it processes from?

  • This relates to Swipe in general, but it would feel so much better if I had more options to increase movement speed. The low movement speed combined with Swipe’s tiny area of effect is really grating over time, and this is with a build that has as much movement speed from boots as I can get at my level, Frenzy, Haste, and some increased cooldown recovery speed for Fury Leap.
Something I think would make sense is giving Aspect of the Shark increased movement speed, helping melee Primalists in general and allowing Beastmasters to scale it with stuff like Feeding Frenzy. I don’t think this would be much of a problem when stuff like Flame Reave exists in the game that can hit half the screen. Melee skills with small AoE are fine as long as they’re given extra movement options to compensate.
