[0.9.0f] Heorot's glacier waves overtax the GPU

During the specific storyline stage, the glacier waves cast by Heorot cause huge nosedives in FPS apparently due to the sheer amount of particle effects involved. This is a recurring issue since 0.9.0 initial release. An optimization pass would be VERY welcome.
