Oh no you still do that… I have a full zoo army that includes Abom. 18-30 minions depending on circumstance’s. I take the don’t re eat zombies node, then consume zombies, mages and golems to make him. Leaving rouges, wraiths, zombies, and the abom as my minion horde, (along with trex, vanguard vets, vines, and what ever my book gives me). Even at half strength abom is MUCH more durable and powerful than golem.
If you want to be greedy you can use rings of putrescence and get 20 full minions into your abom, though that involves hotswaping and make an already laborious task even longer.

I play full power Abom with the zombies node that lets me use zombies too while still getting 20 minions (including corpse parasites), though I still feel empty compared to playing Zoo necro. It’s pretty funny though because I always think to myself as I play it, “Honey, we have skeletons (vanguards), skeleton mage death knights (bone minions), wraiths, (revenant*) and golems (abomination) at home.”
*You can substitute in blood wraiths instead but that’s really difficult
