D1 had gold in your inventory. You didn’t have a stash to transfer it to, but you just treated the area near the portal as a stash and dumped it on the ground 
D2 didn’t have gold in the inventory, but it did have a transfer to stash.
Neither had shard transfer though, so the dopamine was balanced. If they implement that in LE as well, we might be not be able to play for all the orgas… I mean, good feelings! 
Somebody’s been doing some googling.
It also had a cap on the amount you could keep in your stash to prevent you from getting too much enjoyment.
