What not to do: Lessons from PoE from a 1400 hours PoE ex-player (part 1)

True but its in the PoE “I just list 5+ hours of time from a single death” noticeable. You really have to die multiple times in a row in GD for it to make any material impact.

So? Are you saying that you want to make it “noticeable” to the point that the player base makes a noticeable move to a more rewarding game?

I have only ever played warframe as a solo based game. UNLESS i needed to crack relics in order to sell the goods I made for plat. Warframe is a HORRIBLE example, as Path of Exile is as well.
Those 2 games are in fact FRE TO PLAY.

Both of those games can stay that way .

Last Epoch should stay the course and never replicate the F2P model.

Two days into every league

Multiple people get to 100 in PoE.

Every League, Same builds. Every League.

No I am just stating that there is a big difference between GD and PoE

Sure things may be different know (I stopped playing PoE some years ago because it was getting boring for me).

How many of these are SSF? Dedicated teams of streamers can take advantage of game mechanics not available to the general public (Chauyla group runs, etc.). Tencent balances the game for that and I am looking to have good time elsewhere.

You mean GGG, I know it’s a difficult thing to get your head around, but it’s the developers that make all the day to day decisions like game balance not the majority shareholders.

You can’t make this stuff up . . . . Why the combativeness? I know very well what I mean. Respondeat superior.

It just annoys me when people jump on the bandwagon of blaming the Evil Chinese Mega-Corporation for changes in PoE that they don’t like when it’s going to be the Evil New Zealand SME that’s making the changes that they don’t like. If you’re going to be pissed off with a company for something, be pissed off at the right company.

But I apologise if I came across as combative.

I am 100% with @Llama8 on this.

I don’t like Tencent that much too. (For reason we don’t need to discuss here)

But i think PoE and in this case GGG, did not change anything major since they Tencent bought in.

In fact Tencent already bought GGG 2 years ago. And there is no impact on GGG’s or PoE’s path taken so far IMO.

I could see arguments for other dev studios, were Tencent bought shares or the whole company and it did impact the games behind those thing, but that’s not the discussion here either.

I don’t like all those conspiracy theories about the big bad chinese mega companies.

This has devolved into an offtopic discussion. Let’s stick to the lessons to learn for the game, not the companies themselves. I think EHG’s staff would rather we focus on their game instead of competition.

I don’t think we are that “off-topic” yet.

The OP, was already not solely focused on LE, that’s right, but i don’t see anything wrong with that.

Giving Feedback, what people like or don’t like on other simialr games can also be valueable feedback.

Diving into details on how EHG is functioning versus GGG is not about the game itself. That OP focused on the game itself, and GGG making decisions about its game. The two staffs are not comparable at this point. LE is still in development. PoE has around 11 years since inception.

Idk, ive played POE for 6 years and I always ended up quitting for the same reasons; I get sick of spending over half my play time tabbed out in trade dealing with dumb people and/or scammers, the build I like was gutted, or the league mechanic is dull.

At this point though I just dont have any desire to go back to POE, over the last few years the entire game has just become balanced around the same handful of streamers. Anytime empyrian does some nonsense it results in everyone else getting screwed even though he has an entire private community of traders/farmers at his disposal to manipulate the game and economy.

If people want this to be more and more like POE and the devs go that route id stop playing this too. Im just tired of the direction that game is taking.

My only big complaint with this game is the RNG in every single aspect of the game. I have over 1000 echos done, ive played enough to have a fair opinion of the game.

Want a certain blessing? rng - Want a good roll on that blessing? rng - Want good gear? rng - Want to spawn a timeline boss before the max echos and godawul mods stacked? rng

Im all rng’d out at this point, I am beyond tired of farming empowered timelines at 35 echos a piece to not get the blessing I want and to fracture every decent base I found during the process.

Show me who, where and how, made "conspiracy theories about the big bad . . . " in this topic.

The issue at hand was death penalty and its ramifications. As a side note it was pointed out that a game based on free to play model (which needs to prolong grind and even frustration to keep masses of players hooked up playing) has implemented death penalty in a harsh way, consistent with the remaining principles of the game (excess grind and reliance on trading). Tencent bought the company behind this model, thus finding value in (endorsing) said game design.

Apology accepted.

In the vast majority of cases, there are no “right” or “wrong” companies. In free markets, you make money by solving other people’s problems. For that, people voluntarily pay you less or equal to what they perceive the benefit for them is.

My “problem” is wanting to play engaging, entertaining, and lasting games. Whoever solves my problem, receives my sustained patronage. I placed a bet on Last Epoch. Continued patronage will depend on the product.

In the future, I’d appreciate not putting words in my mouth or responding to me by disproving points I have not made.

My only issue with that concept is when the company deliberately implements the problem in one of their products in order to sell the solution. Though where that line is is probably a personal one.

A fair point, but you did blame Tencent for GGG’s balance changes so I’m not sure that making the leap from there to thinking that you’re on the “evil Chinese mega-corp” bandwagon is a particularly big one.

Oh yeas. A sleazy tactic. It comes at a reputation cost though and the company pays the price of not having the additional paying customers who would have been attracted if treated fairly and transparently.

Commercial success following a sleazy tactic may still be seen a loss when compared to the missed opportunity for a greater success. Anyway, enough offtipic for me.

Let me give you an example: when you purchase a brothel with well established reputation and make no substantial changes, this is equivalent to endorsing and supporting the core philosophy of how the brother is managed. This is true even if you don’t necessarily set the price and conduct of each individual “worker” in the establishment.

I didn’t “accuse” Tencent for the “balancing issues.” Let’s stick to proper arguing in good faith.

This is what you said:

I’ve bolded the relevant point you made. You explicitly said that Tencent balanced the game around a specific thing. So you’re probably not blaming Tencent for every balance change, but you were blaming Tencent for some balance changes, which is all I said (that you should blame GGG for them, not Tencent).

If you don’t want to accept that, that’s entirely your prerogative, but this conversation appears to be going round in circles & it’s probably making Sarno sad so we should probably stop.

Okay. I should have said “GGG with the blessings of its owner, Tencent.” You are right about my wording that it could have been more precise and pointed at both entities, owner and owned, but all this deflection doesn’t add anything to the point of the death penalty. Do you think that the management of GGG will get away with doing things that Tencent disapproves of?

Gosh, I feel like trying to talk to people who wait in ambush to blame you for being racist, sexist, etc. at the first opportunity just to hijack the conversation.

Peace
