Seriously, that’s like going to an Italian restaurant and complaining that they won’t serve you a curry.
I got my Mage to level 75 using only uniques - swapping different ones as I levelled up - before the new monoliths. I could have got to 100 eventually, but had 0 GB and 0 CSA and began dying too often for it to be fun anymore, so changed my gear.
New uniques can be useful in the right build. Very useful.
my shatter strike uses reens eye. There are a lot of uniques with really good bonuses. Even the beekeepers gloves(1st level unique) could see use in a wierd mass attack speed minion build.
The real issue with the few with very weak effects or weapons with so low a base level that the bonuses are not worth it, most unique weapons being below level 50.
There are also some that have such big downsides that even builds that benefit from them would think twice; Fighting chance(makes you take more damage), Wing guards(attack speed, but cannot crit), Morningfrost(1%extra damage taken per dexterity, meaning about 25% on any build that would run it because its big thing is the +1 cold damage per point of dexterity), and Stormtide(you get shocked if you stop moving).
There is of course some REALLY GOOD ones like every one that turns your health into ward, every single armour unique with glancing blow and stuff like Ignivar’s Head which are auto-picks for certain builds.
Then there are sets, out of the 8 in game, only invokers and isoras are without a useful enough bonus and without really good items that the set requires, the other 6 sets are absolutely insane.
yes I m still playing D2 ^^ and love curry good guess
When I look at streamers unique items are used but very few of them , a statistics would be interesting to have .
As you said your gear couldn’t get you to 100 due to lack of some GB and CSA , that s why rare are used you can craft what you need.
This here my concerned in D2 when you drop Griffon’s eye you were excited to try here, I ve not felt that in LE.
Maybe unique that gives a Skill from another class could be nice ( ex: Enigma for D2 )
i always wear mourningfrost as my leveling boots for the movespeed. i have about 4 pairs in my stash in case i’m leveling multiple builds, or haven’t yet replaced them on a character that has reached the monolith. they’re hard to beat for non-dex builds until you get higher level bases with good implicit movespeed.
I would really like to see multi-tiered unique items (eg. level 20, 40, 80 of same item) and a much more deep pool of items. I’ll be honest, the items so far are very underwhelming and item drops/farming IMO are the biggest sell point of ARPGs.
I have used almost every unique if not for leveling up new characters but also to help define builds. There is only a couple I haven’t been able to fit with how I play: Culnivar’s Claim for example. Game is still in beta, stuff like this could have more place later on.
I am in agreement with you. It is too early in the game completion to be sure on uniques (and sets) or the eventual uses there will be.
I personally love the concept of hundreds of uniques/sets - some useless barring a very specific build, others as a means to help early game progression, still others as part of an end-game build. I love that uniques CAN be useless or have such a bizarre pro/con stat match that its either amusing or a challenge to build a character using it. I say, the more the merrier really. I really hate it when ARPG end up with a handful of viable end game builds using a handful of very specific gear (ie. D3)… I love the possibilities that uniques bring.
My only suggestion was that there needs to be something to do with the uniques as they do tend to pile up if you dont use them. One idea would be to incorporate them into crafting (shatter uniques to get special runes/glyphs etc as mentioned by others) or another would be to vary the pricing (beyond 500 coin) so that they are worth selling to normal vendors…
I keep 1-2 of the same unique that roll the best if I decide I need it for a build or what-not. I tend to sell the rest. Yeah they can cluster your stash but isn’t that like every ARPG?
