It depends on the country. But rarely has anything put a pointer function. Which… is a problem actually.
As much as I know too low participation is in ‘some’ (few) countries a aspect of the system and demands further specific actions afterwards of some kind.
In my country? Sadly nothing.
In general - once more depending on country - illegitimate (blank) outcomes count as participation nonetheless, non-participation is separate.
That’s a pointer for the political situation in a country, the closer to 50% total participation it goes the more unrest will happen since it’s likely that the outcome is not one which the populace agrees with.
The same goes for ‘blanks’, if they rise substantially then there’s a distinct sign of unrest happening as well.
In Last Epoch we can’t easily discern how many people actually are interested in participating since players stop playing, hence the ‘blank’ option starts to become very important as a safety check.
It means ‘I see that there’s a vote ongoing but neither of the points sits well with me, my stance is not reflected’. And that is a call for action for a developer in this case.
Yeah, we have the same rumour here from time to time. Not regularly, but I expect that’s because voting is mandatory over there (which is why you always get a bunch of “joke candidates”).
As I mentioned, in Brazil there is no non-participation. But where it’s not mandatory, as far as I know, they are separate.
Also, over here at least, there is a distinction between blank votes (you didn’t select any option) and invalid votes (you selected more than one, selected outside the box, made a doodle or anything other than a simple check).
Blank votes are the “protest” ones, though they aren’t used that often for fear that their ballot will simply by filled by whoever’s counting (it’s not likely, but the fear is there).
Not for this poll. It would be important if they wanted to see how many people are actively participating these days, but that’s not the point of the poll. The only point of the poll is to see if there are more people that want a reset or that don’t want one. That’s all.
Having 1k people voting for one and 2k people voting for the other is exactly the same thing has having 1k people voting for one and 2k people voting for the other and 1k people voting “I don’t care”, which is also the exact same thing as 1k people voting for one and 2k voting for the other and 50k voting “I don’t care”.
All that matters is that there are twice as many people that want one of the options.
It isn’t. This isn’t a spectrum choice. It’s a yes/no. There is no other stance to be reflected. Either we get a cycle reset or we don’t. What other stance do you want reflected here? Reset only half the cycle playerbase? That makes no sense.
This isn’t a poll to gauge the state of LE or its community. This is a very specific poll for a very specific question. And that question is a yes or no. The second question wasn’t even required and is just there to seek justifications in case no reset wins.
