I am a gamer since more than 35 years and a game industry professional since 20 years, having played most action RPGs since Diablo 1. Having spent some time in LE for the first time, I’d like to share my initial feedback with you, maybe you find it useful. I will completely skip the current connection issues and hope that you will resolve them soon, as currently I can barely play the game at all ;). You also did a lot of things excellent, otherwise I won’t even bother playing your game, so I really want to focus only on some suggestions.
especially after having played quite a lot Diablo 4 I really miss “evade” as a built-in function for all classes (which PoE 2 by the way is going to integrate as a core functionality as well). It adds a lot of fun and action in this genre, I’d see it currently as a must-have component for all modern gameplays of any good action RPG.
a major (!) problem is loosing almost ALL skill points if respeccing. I really want to experiment freely with all skills, and see what works best and how they interact with each other. And you built a wonderful and complex skill system with a lot of things to experiment with, so imho it’s just pointless to lose all points and heavily punish players this way. I’d be OK to lose 1 point if I respec to another skill and then go back to the previous skill again, but to lose almost all points just doesn’t make any sense to me. To gain the xp from scratch for a new skill is totally fine, just going back and forth between skills doesn’t make sense this way at all. It’d be better if respeccing to the previous skill again while preserving all previous points would cost gold, if you want to have some “punishment”.
loot feels a bit scarce, and the level progression a bit slow imho, I’d expect to be better equiped and much faster at level 10+. Killing mobs and mini-bosses feels mostly too slow and even a bit boring.
That’s so far as early experience suggestions, more to follow later. Thanks for your great game and good luck!
The evade button was pretty cool, but most of the mechanics in 1.0 weren’t designed around that mechanic in mind. They have experimented on with it in the past, and shelved it for the time being.
Run a mono and you will have all the points for your skills before the end of it.
Loot feels a bit scarce? Progression feels slow? You can easily make it to empowered monos after a few hours of play, where gold, idols, uniques and exalted items rain on you. Yes, bosses feel like damage sponges, but that could be your build.
I’m certain that as a long time ARPG player you will be able to read one of the recent heated threads we had about this subject and find the reasoning why it’s in this ways and why it’s perfectly ok
I feel exactly the opposite, and it is generally recognized around here that in early game the progression is really fast. Maybe you are bit biased from playing too much other games, I think the style around here will grow up in you.
Hmm I have mixed feelings about this but I can certainly say LE wants to be a game on its own. Being here since 2022 the Devs are passionate and often surprise us with game mechanics.
I don’t think it’s mandatory to have evade in any ARPG, I enjoyed 1k hours without it and it was a blast and pure action with my builds.
Evade could easily go into “cheap” mechanic territory
And IMO it don’t fit in this game.
Yes, except for people who play the build without such features. For example my build on necromancer is built purely to spam zombies and ghosts and I have no such spell. And I’m sure I won’t be the only one, and it won’t just be with necro.
Yes, but that’s the nice thing: it’s about choices. Transplant, Skeleton Mages … Necro has multiple ways to include some movement skill into their build.
If you chose to skip any traversal skill, that’s on you.
Expected to be geared at level 10?.
Im level 50 and i dropped a dozen of unique items throughout the campaign, obviously alot for other classes than my own aswell. Loot feels pretty decent imo, and remember to craft its really worth it early on, and you get materials alot.
D4 is definitely a great ARPG in terms of story+campaign and its early game mechanics, but it has many flaws in regard to the mid/late game mechanics. Stay constructive with your feedback. LE campaign and story are extremely weak compared to D4, I have hard time to follow it at least a bit, it’s just plain boring.
