Strange interactions with Aura of Decay/Exsanguinous

AoD is designed to be toggled that’s the whole flaw of it. I wish there was some kind of RF build outside of Judgement that is a true always on aura you can work with. I dumped AoD years ago into my mental “Don’t touch it’s not for you and you hate it.” folder and lived happiely ever after.

I understand completely. For whatever reason, though, I can’t get this one to fail (now @ L64): https://www.lastepochtools.com/planner/o3gwE4ko. I’ve even contemplated adding Bone Curse to my permanent auras, just need a little more Mana regen.

UPDATE: looks like the Icarian Poison node pushes me over the edge; not worth the extra damage.

UPDATE #2: even with 95/sec Health regen, Icarian Poison is a slow but inevitable death. Such great damage boost, though…

I think it’s better for you not to take the Icarian poison.
Do the following:

  1. Try to develop 150 intelligence. After that, make yourself 300 poison resistance.
  2. Take the Fume weaver node. This will lower your poison resistance to 150%, but it will also lower the resistance of your enemies.
  3. Take the Repsite node in 4. 200% healing is a lot.
  4. Make a total of 300-400 regen hp per second.
So you can most likely never turn off AoD.
After these manipulations, try to take Icarian poison, but , as I think, you will have to turn off the aura sometimes.
In a good way, you would also take Poison Skin, but it is necessary to take a lot of points for this skill.
Damn, this list can be endless, because we need 3-4k armor.

This list is very helpful, thanks! I haven’t had to turn off AoD since I started (currently at L85). Damage is around 2k, armor at 2.5k. Still looking for a Pearls amulet with Acid Skin (currently using Decrepify). While Respite’s healing is good, it only works on deactivation, something I want to avoid if at all possible. Fume Weaver looks interesting; I’ll give that a shot.

I haven’t read carefully what Respite does. In that case, you don’t need it, and take Poison skin.

That will have to wait as I’m out of skill points (still haven’t one a single AoD Skill shard).

OK) gl for search)

OK, just took Fume Weaver; damage seems much better, but the AoD tool-tip didn’t change. At least I’m not dead.

You must be magic - just found a T3 AoD helmet, got all 3 back on shatter.

As long as you take Absence of Life (and AoD doesn’t one shot you, which is unlikely to happen), you won’t ever die from AoD.
You will usually always reach a balance point between life lost and life gained around half hp.

At most you’ll just switch out of Lich Form, though that would happen anyway because of Lich health decay.

EDIT:

Just a tip: for those rare affixes, you want to use a rune of removal instead of shattering. That is because removal will always give you all the shards from the affix it removed, whereas shattering will give you random ones among the available affixes/tiers.
If you run out of FP before you hit the affix you want you can then use shatering anyway and it will be more likely to give you those shards.

I recently came across this advice and it helped me a lot). We definitely need a topic with tips for beginners (oldies too)

I got curious, so I tried to quickly assemble a build. https://www.lastepochtools.com/planner/A62nRP8A
It looks terrible, but it has resistances, armor, and the HP regeneration I mentioned earlier. I also decided to test how Plague from the staff Plague Bearer’s Staff would work with Spirit Plague. When using this skill on an enemy, the poison penetration from the staff , and penetration from the skill stacks. Since it is a poison, it will work well with our aura. Naturally, I need to test all of this, and I may try it out on my weekend.
