Smoke bomb + Coated Blades bugged interaction or Working as intended?

I’m assuming this is the interaction going on:
When the mobs reach 4 stacks of shadow daggers via Smoke bomb’s talent Knives in the Dark, it seems it is consuming mana via Coated Blades rogue passive to do the extra damage. This results in a massive amount of mana drain (500+).
