Shadow Rend Hybrid Theorycraft

Introduction

Wanted to get a discussion going for Shadow Rend hybrid builds. I’ve put this together so far:

Basic
Shadow Rend Build

Juiced
Shadow Rend With 2 LP Uniques

Main Changes From Basic Build to 2LP

- Skill tree changes for more damage

- Skill trees in Shadow Rend, Smoke Bomb, Shurikens reconfigured to give even more damage or sustain.

- Uses Peak of the Mountain to free up several crit chance slots for more damaging uniques.

- Additional 350% increased damage for non shadow attacks and additional 550% increased damage for shadows.

- 30% more damage for a Shadow Rend attack every 3 seconds.

- Perma haste and 100%+ armor shred (about 40+ stacks maintained on a single target)

- 5% more damage global

- 30% physical pen for shadow daggers

- Additional 50% crit multi for non throwing attacks and additional 150% crit multi for throwing attacks.

- 80 more flat throwing damage

- Endurance up from 30% to 40%

- Average dodge at 20 dusk shroud stacks down from 60% to 50%

- Armor mitigation down from 40% to 25% (still a total of 60 to 70% hit mitigation depending on damage type).

- Damage over time damage reduction down from 25% to 15%

Stats Basic Build

Offensive stats include:

  • 500%ish crit chance with no LP or crazy gear.

  • 300%ish increased damage (%increased will be highly valuable as a weaver affix).

  • 515%ish crit multi ( add 350 multi from gear + 45 multi from tree + 40% average deadly strike multi of 120%).

  • 2.5 attacks per second. Attack speed is more of a quality of life thing in this build.

  • 1 Shadow Dagger proc a second. 3 ghostly daggers + 1 shadow dagger from Shadow Rend.

  • 150 melee flat and 74 throwing flat on Kismet attacks. Variable amount of both while in Smoke grenade (+20 a second).

Defensive Stats Include:

  • 40% armor.

  • 60% + dodge once dusk shroud stacks.

  • 100% glancing blow chance once you hit 10 dusk shrouds.

  • 3 silver shrouds every 15 seconds on big hit.

  • 3k+ hp.

  • 20% damage reduction while moving ( always moving due to how shadow rend works).

  • 20% to 30% damage over time reduction.

  • 30% endurance.

  • Way over critical avoidance cap jut due to how the gear and passives line up.

Achieving 140% base critical strike chance cap for Deadly Strikes using Truesight Glass

  • Kismet Chakram thrown by shadows 89% base crit chance = 50% increase crit chance needed.

  • Kismet Chakram thrown by actual Rogue 73% base crit chance = 100% increased crit chance needed.

  • Shadow rend Shadow attacks 22% to 25% base crit = 500% to 600% increased crit chance needed.

  • Shadow Rend Melee Attack non shadowand abilities (ghost blades) 16% base crit = 800% increased crit chance (not happening) needed.

In the end what this means is shoot for about 550% crit chance and everything will crit 100% of the time. Deadly strikes will hit it’s cap for every attack outside non shadow melee attacks + ghost daggers unless they have triple crit vulnerability(+6% base crit). Still not clear if shadow daggers can Deadly Strike since they auto crit on proc.

Gameplay

The main premise is to load up Kismet buffs from Scissor of Atropos and then spend them all on a barrage Chakrams for huge damage. With 2 swords you should get 2 stacks of kismet a hit meaning you only need to hit 4 times to be at full stacks before unloading Chakrams.

Will have to see if the shadow attack from shadow rend also stacks Kismet. If so I could move some attack speed around for more damage. I might still drop some speed as 2 attacks per second is likely the sweet spot for this build. You can also spawn quite a few umbral blade explosions. Remains to be seen if that will have any impact with how fast the build might be.

Upgrades

Some uniques to consider when the build has really good gear:

  • Li’raka’s Claws 130% throwing attack crit multi and 24% more damage for chakrams ( chakrams convert extra shurikens to damage).

  • Vaion’s Chariot 50% increased damage and 40% more damage every 3 seconds.

  • Penumbra 115% increased damage, 15% physical pen on shadow daggers and 25% crit multi.

Conclusion

That is about it so far. Looking forward to testing some of the current unknowns about the build like Dusk Shroud Maintenance and how much attack speed makes the Kismet dump feel smooth. Anyone else going to be doing a hybrid this season?

Looks fun.
Mana might be an issue.

Honestly it shouldn’t be that bad. You’ll just have to scale up your Shadow Rend casts with how much gear you have. There’s -4 cost in the tree with no hoops and you get 20 mana regen a second from just 3 T5 regen affixes. If you use the smoke bomb node that’s another -10 cost.

While leveling I image the ability cadence will be Shadow Rend > Chakram > Chakram. Then once you are fully geared you shift into Shadow Rend > Shadow Rend > Shadow Rend >Shadow Rend > Chakram. It should be a natural progression slowly adding more shadow rends as your gear gets better .

For a 16 cost shadow rend at 2 cast per second over 4 total casts that’s:

(40 mana regened + 8 mana from shurikens) - 64 mana spent = 16 mana lost

16 mana bleed isn’t particularly bad in a high regen build but adding in smoke bomb makes mana maintenance even easier.

With smokebomb’s -10 and that’s:

(40 mana regened + 8 from shurikens) - 24 mana spent = 24 mana gained

The smokebomb node is actually so strong you can itemize out of mana regen entirely and just use the native 8 flat regen everyone gets to 0 out mana cost.
