Response to MTX Store

Respect where respect is due. I’m so used to other companies doubling down on dumb decisions, instead of actually gathering, and responding to feedback. You guys did that within 24 hours. That’s a W in my book.

Nice changes, but don’t get hard-set on only pricing things in intervals of 50 points. I would actually consider buying some MTX at $2 - $3 (20-30 points), and having some cheaper options would allow people to mix and match and still get value for one purchase. I think having 50 points as the lowest cost will prevent some people from ever investing in MTX. It’s obviously a numbers game, and I’m sure there are way smarter people than me working on figuring out what’s best, but please consider cheaper options. Just don’t give us change in single digits, that’s scummy and we’ll all see what’s happening.

Honestly, even with how much I absolutely love this game, and the devs, and the way they respond to criticism, even with how I want to keep playing this game for years, I don’t see myself spending more than $20-30 to FULLY kit out and customize a character to make them feel awesome. I’m talking portal, armor, weapon glow, skill animations, wings, whatever. If I invest hundreds of hours into a character and want to make them look awesome, I would absolutely consider spending more money on this game, but if I have to spend more than the box price ($35) to “finish” a look for just ONE character, I would be extremely hesitant. That just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

In my opinion, MTX should not cost more than what one would pay for a morning coffee drink. Sure if you get something super extra fancy, you might end up spending $10, but it would probably be exactly what you want and you’d be happy about it all day. Otherwise, just a few dollars here and there adds up. Don’t make this game only for the whales. You might be surprised how much support you get in small increments.

Yeah, nice move. Everybody is happy now. It worked. Well played.

I’m sorry, but I don’t buy this “we listened to the community” stuff. This looks fishy as fuck is is exactly what people have guessed that happens next.

I feel even more scammed by this move than by the post yesterday. It’s so predictable, it’s almost insulting the intelligence of your community. But just almost, since so many people here are buying this…

I have no words, really!

This isn’t a bad argument but…

Look at it this way perhaps. Either have one person buy an exceedingly overpriced item or have 10 people buy multiple “cheap” items. I think the company will choose the latter and benefit more in the long run. This was by far the smartest decision they could have made. Almost all the negatives from the original announcement have turned positive, thus making EHG the winner.

So anytime someone attempts to improve based on feedback, it’s instantly fishy? Lol some of the comments in this thread are borderline pathetic. The amount of entitled grown ass people here is insane, step away from your computer and go give your head a wobble.

I hard disagree with this take.

This doesn’t seem to be like it’s EHG anchoring the prices for the community. This doesn’t seem like some master manipulators who just pulled the rug out from under us.

EHG is a relatively small and young development studio. What they’ve shown us and given us should be proof that they legitimately listen to criticism and try and steer the ship in the correct direction depending on user feedback.

I understand being a bit hesitant to believe them, but at a certain point it’s just being pessimistic for the sake of it.

  1. They’ve always said that the MTX shop will be coming, not only that, but coming prior to full release. This isn’t a surprise nor a rug pull. This wasn’t evil Tencent pulling the strings, this was advertised ages ago back when they were still raising money through Kickstarter.

  2. The prices originally were steep but not insane. They were the norm for the genre, hence why EHG thought they could just follow that as a guiding light. They’ve since corrected what people complained about.

  3. Lowering the prices, ensuring all items are divisive of 50 points so you aren’t left with leftover points you cannot use are all great changes. Would you rather they NOT make these changes? It seems like you’d complain and bemoan EHG regardless of their choices.

EHG and LE are not PoE and GGG. They’re not Diablo and Blizzard. Assuming the worst of them because of what the other guys have done in the past isn’t fair.

Also users like myself actually nagged EHG into adding an MTX shop before full release because we want to support the developers and look cool doing it. I demand all unique items have their own 3D model to match their 2D art, but that doesn’t mean a cosmetic shop isn’t permitted too.

I have over 500 hours in LE and I’ve spent only $35 on it. As an adult, my return on investment is insane already, and it’s not even release 1.0.

If we want new features moving forward beyond 1.0 we’re going to need to make sure the nearly 100 employees they have are able to make a living doing what they do.

Could this be an anchor situation? Maybe. Do I think it was? No. Do I think it’s fair to assume EHG is acting maliciously because of this change? Also no.

So long as I feel my dollar per point is being valued, I have no issue spending $50-$100 on cosmetics. That’s just how the genre is and LE has been the best for consumers so far.

PoE with stashes costs more than LE and it sells cosmetic sets for $50 or more. Diablo 4 has a AAA starting price and sells cosmetics.

LE by those standards alone has beaten out the rest of the industry for me.

100%. There doesn’t seem to be anything in the packs that makes one “worth more” than any of the others. Why not price them the same so people can focus on getting the designs they like rather than the one that’s at a price point they’re comfortable with?

If they’re going to ramp up the prices, the more expensive ones need to give more, not just a design liked more by whoever is making the pricing decisions.

Points for:
– That ANY response was made in 24 hours is more than I’ve seen from any other developer, period.
– EHG recognized they were angering their community and cared to do anything about it speaks volumes.
– We are a passionate community who is tired of the nonsense the big corporations have been pulling on gamers.
– For the most part, this community has less anonymized internet stupidity than any other I’ve been a part of.

Cons:
– Pricing of certain items still a big high for my taste, but that is relative and easily debatable.
– Still looks like fully skinning a character would be more expensive than the whole game.
– No mention of cosmetics earnable through gameplay or community participation.

Overall: The consumer often has a sense of Entitlement that comes with Fandom. FYI: The consumer (this means you) is Entitled to nothing. The consumer votes with a wallet. The developer has to stay in business. Finding the sweet spot where the developer makes money and the consumer is willing to part with hard earned real life currency is the value proposition. We’re not there yet, but we’re a hell of a lot closer than we were yesterday.

And this is why I believe it is worth supporting the developers through continued financial support, whether that is buying MTX for a toon or copies for my buds. I have 906.4 hours in for a $35 investment and have bought two more copies for people I know. I still have at least 10 builds I want to get up and running. The downside of MTX is: How do I choose which one of my toons to max out?!?!

Really? Have you seen what’s in each supporter pack? I haven’t but maybe I missed it. It would seem to me that, as usual, the reason for the packs being increasingly more is that each one offers more. Whether I think those additional “items” are worth the increased price is subjective to my own thoughts of worth the price, but there are normally more in each successive one.

So if I’ve missed it please point me to it.

I don’t like playing w keyboard and mouse. It seems they were designed for typing and browsing. I also have a left handed mouse, and playing w mouse on the opposite side of the keyboard is near impossible. I also don’t like the subscription based model, and especially hate the fact D4 is going to have a battlepass.

As a left handed person who was raised using a right handed mouse my whole life, it feels weird that left handed mice exist. lmao

I love that they do, but I’d probably suck at using them. Like I can’t write a damn thing with my right hand but using my mouse for precise movement? No problem. It’s weird how the brain can just be rewritten for that, I guess.

I never read the other post on the MTX. However, having read the above post and all the feedback. I believe they’ve done well to address the concerns the community had.

I bought goodies in PoE to support it when I played it for a season of its Ladder play. I’ll likely buy something from the MTX here. I’m not sure what, or when, but I’ll work that out in time after it’s in.

So tell me, what do you like?

This is a substantial improvement although I do have a few questions:

  1. I can’t help but notice the image you used has 480 points which isn’t a multiple of 50EP. Can we get some confirmation that this is in fact an image error? I imagine it is since this needed to be an urgent/rush response given the backlash but it could also be an edge case that consumers may want to be aware of.
  2. You mention that EP allow for refunds from the shop - where does the refund policy stand at this time? Specifically in regards to any unexpected clashing/negative interactions with existing gear/unique models that could not have been anticipated from shop images.
  3. If you are interested in trying to innovate in the industry - have you considered a testing/fitting room for the MTX store? Nothing fancy, just a small zone with some training dummies ( or heck, you could honestly just use the existing area outside the arena) where one could test the appearance of cosmetic and especially skill MTX prior to purchase? I feel like this is something very few ARPGs currently offer and it would greatly improve confidence when it comes to purchases.
Edit: Removed a question because i’m blind, my bad

I like Magic the Gathering. I stream and play the online version MTGA every day. I’m currently ranked top 1,000 out of over 10 million registered users. I don’t mean to just rag on this game. Clearly there are things about the game I like, otherwise I wouldn’t be here. So here you go, I like the customization in active and passive skills, although I wish they would make it more balanced. I like the crafting system, and love the fact I can upgrade uniques with legendary potential. However, without a trade system finding the right ones seems impossible. I like how fast my mage moves with haste and movement speed bonuses, and I really like having spells that seems to have homing and targeting potential. The gameplay seems great, but without a trade system and PVP, I find there’s not much to do at level 100.

I am pretty certain they just took the already existign screenshot and just adjusted the prices of the individual items, but forgot to change the Point Count

No offense, but did you read the OP?
They literally answered your question in the post.
