The Primalist Maelstrom node ‘Gathering Storm’ still drains the characters mana when cast, unlike the similar Ice Thorns node. Is this intentional or a bug. I saw a prior report, but no further feedback on this particular issue. If it’s supposed to work like this, is there something I don’t understand about the presentation that makes it obvious this is intended?
Sometimes skills being proc’d do cost mana (such as all the nodes that will cast Lightning Blast as a Mage) and sometimes they don’t (I think the Sigil of Hope cast on kill node doesn’t cost mana, nor does the Smite on throwing attack idol proc), so it could go either way.
When I did digging into this issue, I saw an earlier post where it mentioned that skills that have a node that increases cast cost was overriding the ‘freeness’ of being cast on hit/when hit. Any insight into that?
Yeah, that was certainly a thing, but it was fixed, and it only affected skills that had a node that made the skill free to cast (which I don’t think Maelstrom has).
Hmm. Then I do wish that bit of info was more clear in the tool tip, because the Ice Thorn on hit and Maelstrom on kill effects both indicate they are ‘cast’ on their proc mechanic. Yet they behave differently.
I appreciate your insight into the whole thing. It nice to know, if a bit frustrating to learn, how the nodes are intended to work.
Yes, the who interaction (& all other interactions like this) could do with being tidied up & made more consistent (like the “allies” nodes, sometimes they include you without saying “yourself & allies”, sometimes they don’t).
Thanks! We’ll discuss the design intention here and then clarify.
Have you got time verify the intentions here as I was also very surprised of mana cost of the gathering storm as usually proc skills do not cost mana.
