If you would kindly read the whole post. I said the golden resonance was fine for a trade-gate concept. It is the Obsidian that’s excessively ridiculous.

Your thought that I didn’t agree with your post because I didn’t understand it is mistaken.
Even if you play infrequently together for small play sessions you will eventually drop a Obsidian Resonance.
The more you play together and the better your friends equipment gets the amount of Obsidian Resonance will very likely exceed the amount of items you would want to give to them with it anyway.
Completely agree. My friend and I have been playing for dozens and dozens of hours together and we have a total of 10 Golden and 2 Obsidian. The Golden are completely useless. The most common thing we want to trade are Exalted items.
Game needs to increase the drop rates (considerably) AND give us a way of cashing the Golden in for Obsidian, say 10:1 or 5:1 ratio.
Did you not read. The mechanism is doing its job just fine but it still could, without totally ruining the co-op experience for regular friends as it is currently doing. The current Obsidian drop rate will kill the game as a co-op experience imo. Then it won’t matter a darn that the precious economy was kept intact.
Read chat for an evening, and you will see the current implementation of trading is absolutely hated.
Then your reply made no sense.
Not even close.
As I reported above I have played dozens of hours with a friend and we have 2 Obsidian. I have almost a full stash tab of items I want to give him that dropped when he was offline. 95% are exalted items and need an Obsidian. That’s just what I collected for him since 1.0 dropped. (We both run many high level Alts).
I have a question… if we were both rank 8 in MG, could we enter a town and just trade the items (not gift)? Directly I mean, not via AH?
What do you think about buffing the golden Resonance like I discribed here:
Maybe figure something similar out for exalted Items? e.g. allowing to gift T6 exalted items with golden resonances or actually allow all exalted items to be traded with golden resonances.
This is exactly my point. By the time we get an Obsidian they are geared. Their purpose in the game is practically moot aside from the .01% of circumstances.
I’ve played for maybe 20 hours with my brother, zero Obsidian. At that point just take the game perm offline and make is a solo game. This game genre is about smashing through dungeons for RnG rolls on loot. But ONLINE games are about enjoying the experience with friends / family while helping each other along the way. You’re missing the latter.
I will maintain that outside of crafted legendary items, you should only need Golden. Exaulted items are not special. The game literally rains them. Maybe a perfect roll is special, but who cares? You still need to smash it with a unique for it to even mean anything.
There is zero reason to make playing with friends this difficult and inconsistent. I have a two handed axe my brother needs from the Shade, it’s 1LP. Can’t gift it to him.
You have a system in your game that one ups you from Diablo, yet, like Blizzard, you chose to make embracing it be a chore. Hack and slash games are not meant for chores.
Based on this, if you think my response didn’t make sense, it’s probably because you were expecting the same level of hyperbole as yourself and the OP.
Obsidian Resonances should be really rare to heavily restrict gifting of the best items, and the reasons for that are more important than some people sometimes getting salty that they can’t gift every item they might find to their friends who weren’t there when it dropped.
If you understood, you would have responded to my specific points instead of a blanket statement that had zero to do with my initial post. So, no, it was not mistaken.
You don’t have any specific points to respond to. It’s just generic, hyperbolic complaining that Thing You Want is rarer than you want it to be sprinkled with a weird aside about consoles. “Give this to me because I want it!” isn’t a specific point.
Trading is restricted heavily, Obsidians being rare is part of that, and should be. There’s nothing else to say.
I don’t usually comment on post on forums but feel like saying something. I have been playing with my friend through the whole playthrough of the game and even up until empowered monoliths (over 15 hours party play), not one obsidian resonance has dropped and i have been paying very hard attention to what drops. We have found plenty of golden ones but no obsidian . Trying to give him a helmet i found when he wasn’t around which enables his build seems quite impossible so far. Found plenty of golden resonance but 0 obsidian. It would be cool if we could obtain them from time based rather than RNG. I understand why it is this way, to stop people RMTing items and player longevity, but it’s a little disheartening after going days without seeing any. Just saying if it was time based it would still be decent because i can’t see any RMTer playing with the player they are trying to sell the item to for an hour+ etc. Apart from that i have been loving the party play and the harbinger fights. Appreciate you all for listening to your community
If you’re both MG you can also just sell it to him for 0 gold.
If you’re not both MG, then yeah, resonances are the only thing that can help.
I was expecting this to have been adjusted by now. And to be fair, players have stopped complaining about this, so it feels like the issue is solved (not saying it is, just that the complaints stopping makes it feel that way).
Maybe it was just bad RNG? It would be helpful if other players gave their feedback for the current cycle.
I did MG last season and felt i was done with the season too quick with how easy it is to get items, so this season i went CoF to increase my time played doing a group found type play setting. I understand MG is a way to trade it but refuse playing MG this season. Just wish it wasn’t so RNG based because our luck clearly has been really bad i guess. Thanks for the speedy reply and i can understand why it’s this way. Have a great day
No worries. But your feedback really is important if it’s not an isolated case. And even if you are an outlier case where you’re both having extremely bad luck, then it’s also important so EHG can maybe balance things better?
Personally, for resonances only, I would implement a pity system. That is, you’ve been playing with your friend for 10h. No resonance dropped, you’re given one after that time. If one drops before that, then it restarts the clock (or even increases it a bit for each time, so that the 2nd one would only be guaranteed after 12h, 3rd after 15h, etc).
After all, this is something that will be much exploited. You have to play lots of hours with someone to get a single item trade. So I think it would be a good solution.
That would be amazing even if it is 10+ hours. Having 1 guaranteed past that time period would still keep the annoying RMTers away from making the game bad. Because what you guys have going right now is in my eyes a masterpiece slowly coming together. The fact yourself and the other devs take in account to our feedback really makes me want to stay even longer, so thank you for that. it’s like a breath of fresh air
Yeah i mean I basically dont even consider resonances real, even if it took 5 hours, by the time 5 hours was up my friend who desperately needed that item would probably hate his life anyways.
Everyone who wants to trade with friends just goes MG. Cause frankly At this point CoF is kinda a meme among high level players in terms of getting loot. if you wanna get loot fast, and boost friends etc, MG is just the place to be. CoF really is for people who wanna take it slow.
Not just that. It’s actually a mentality thing. CoF is for people that get more excited about drops than by a build’s power level. People that like to have random stuff drop that makes them think “Hey, this would be a nice item to make a new build”.
It’s something I had in D2 and haven’t really felt again since, until LE.
It’s actually a very fundamental tool for an altoholic.
Add to that, “CoF is for people that don’t want a second job making cash to buy stuff they want”.
I mean, I like the drops, sure, but the minute I start grinding for X to be able to buy an item from the market it feels like a second job and I’m done.
