Need advice on optimal PC setup for high density maps

Overclocking RAM is not as complicated as CPU/GPU - most modern bios have built in XMP profiles that boost RAM speed automatically and it simply requires checking for stability after…

AMD vs Nvidia performance - I think its just the usual cycle of one manufacturer playing catch up on the other and the price/performance benefits… Right now, my personal preference would be for Nvidia because of their newer features like DLSS & RTX but AMD has their own versions that will mature over time…

Pushing for the best 10% of top tier performance records aside, unless there is a specific feature that you need or a specific piece of software/game that needs/prefers a specific manufacturer I dont think there is any real issue when chosing between the performance of the higher end GPUs. And with the shortages/prices I think that anything you can get might end up being a more important issue…

Waiting for the newer tech that is coming is probably a double edged sword… who knows how much the performance/price/availability will affect things in the next 6-18months…

I understand. It is better for most users to buy good RAM modules and setup XMP profile in BIOS. It is good to pair Intel CPUs from 6000 series (disadvantage is need of high-end chipsets till 11000 series) and all Ryzen CPUs with at least 3200 MHz CL16. 3600 MHz CL16 or CL14 in both speeds are even better but cost more.

Vapourfire summarized performance so I will add only that Nvidia has mostly better performance in DX11 games and AMD in DX12 games withint same tier but it’s not a big difference in last series.

There is some good advice here only problem your going to run into is price a RTX 3080 is going to run you $1500 to $2200 unless you get lucky and snatch one for retail price .Prices are sky high at the moment due to the reasons people have mentioned above I don’t know your budget so this may or may not be a problem. My other piece of advice would be to stick to a Nvidia GPU /Graphics card you will have less compatibility issues and more features then you would get with an AMD card .Nvidia is one of the top earners in stocks over the past 20 years and is set to be the next Trillion dollar company. Best of luck to you and happy gaming.

How is this relevant for choosing new hardware?

Its relevant because of how successful the company is equates to a bigger budget for Research and Development of new hardware and technology among other things as well. When you have that at your disposal you have the edge over your competition and the ability to bring the best cutting edge technology to the market. I was merely giving him my opinion of what I believe is the better choice .He asked for peoples advice on a new setup and I gave him my educated advice on what I feel is the best choice for a GPU.

You can´t put “=” between money and potencially good new product because every corporate company made bad decision and will make in future as it is nature of corporate. Intel is strugling with foundries and is stuck with CPU architecture for years and he have even more money then Nvidia. History is full of bad decisions of tech companies that even caused their fall.

Less money make you think unconventionally sometimes which could led to bigger steps then continuous small evolving of tech.

I have good/bad experience with both GPU vendors. Both created good/bad cards in past and have some driver issues. We have to be glad that we have at least this small competition between two vendors.

I have been having great success with a radeon rx 570 8GB, zen 2 ryzen 5 2600 CPU, 2666mhz kingston hyperx fury 16GB DDR4 ram, and a 500gig NVME. which is above the recommended spec for high performance for this game, with a 9 year old corsair TX 750WATT PSU. the sad thing is, to pay for this performance rig, will be more expensive, then if you bought this setup brand new, or used back in 2018 :frowning:

You make some good points and I agree on most of them .I still feel Nvidia is the better company but that’s just my opinion .“History is full of bad decisions of tech companies that even caused their fall” That’s very true do you remember the Voodoo graphic cards from 25 years ago and their downfall.

Yup I agree its a horrible time to be looking to upgrade the prices are out of control. Its not just for graphics cards but the new gaming consoles as well. Its going to be another depressing holiday season for kids that want the latest X Box or PS 5 or looking to upgrade their PC .Its not just hitting consumers either if it continues its going to start inhibiting the video game studios as well. They are going to have to hold back on pushing their graphics’ to the next level because most people wont be able to upgrade their cards to play their new games at their highest level .I wish the original poster and other people the best of luck and hope they are able to get lucky and upgrade their systems at a fair price.

Yeah, I even had Voodoo 2 SLI. Then I had some ATI/Nvidia cards which weren’t as good as Voodoo but 3DFX bankrupted during these years.
