Just Played 10 hours of PoE 2, It's a Great Game but PoE 2 has an Identity Crisis (LE will benefit)

Yes, absolutely doable. The ‘magician’ example is the extreme of it. The focus is simply different betweent the games.

In Elden Ring you’ll need to have weapons which have extreme scaling to achieve the damage to allow making enemies quite easy. Also as you mentioned… overleveling heavily. Which is also something I’m prone to do.

Yes, the fights get easier… but unlike in PoE 1 you won’t be able to stand up, go into the kitchen and make yourself a coffee before returning to continue… there’s builds which achieve that, basically immortal against anything but uber-bosses… and uber-elder was actually killed afk as well.
It’s equipment 80% of the way, 20% player skill carrying that.
In souls-likes it’s usually something like 40% gear and 60% skill, simply the scaling of each being vastly different.

Hey, maybe this isn’t the place for the PoE2 therapy session.
If you want to debate PoE2’s identity crisis, there are better places for that.
LE is doing its own thing, and that’s what we’re here for.

i enjoy poe2 and i like poe2. on release i played a mace ranger (off meta) it was really rough. but once i got gears and i got more supports. it felt good.

the issue back then was getting there. drops are shit.

now that the massive nerfs dropped, only now people get to feel what i felt on release. to me that experience is the real poe2 experience. its how poe2 is meant to be played and i really like it. you can outskill bosses (mostly) and you dont need end/mirror tier gear.

when i rerolled i had a lot of fun going off meta mace. but my experience was heavily skewered as i had a ton of twink gear making my rerolls have a much easier time.

when the last patch dropped. i decided to see how it felt. tbh its not much different from my first go, but since i was paying attention to more details i immediately felt that loot drops ARE SHIT.

it felt bad. i was struggling hard on something solely based on RNG. it just felt bad. in contrast when i played last epoch i did struggle but not too much. i found new gear and quickly got into crafting/upgrading my own gear. in comparison i really felt poe2’s biggest drawback is GGG’s insistence on making things stupidly scarce.

its also a huge reason why i m not touching poe2 now despite liking a lot it has to offer.

i feel ggg needs to polish the game more. i like it being challenging, but the droprate being shit makes it simply unfun.

there is 2 other issues with the game tho

the first is it’s almost certain that when the game releases ggg will make league content reset only. it has always been like that. and this is a huge deal breaker. i will play the game on release because i do like the campaign. but more than that is a huge question mark.

the other issue i have is the “identity”. i identified what ggg wants poe2 to be. and i like their idea. but most of the majority are poe1 enjoyers/zoomers. they dislike how slow and punishing the game is.

i m already surprised ggg nerfed/reworked the overperforming skills. i wonder if ggg would surprise me again by sticking to their guns and sticking with their vision.

i like their vision tbh. i have zero interest in poe1. if poe2 is to be more like poe1, i simply am not that interested. the major issue is just the itemdrops.

Yes, but his point was that in PoE2 you can’t even do that. There are almost no benefits to overleveling. The gem levels stay the same, the drops are still tied to the area level and passives don’t give that big of a boost.
You could grind act1 until you’re level 30 and still die 50 times to the act 1 boss.

The thread category should have been off-topic rather than general. Other than that, there’s no problem with the discussion itself. That’s why the different categories exist.

BTW, if you haven’t noticed, this is how @AbombDaChamp is. Any prolonged disagreement ultimately devolves into you not understanding stuff ergo it’s a you problem & then he refuses to engage with you and blocks you because you’re just not on his level, either as a gamer or intellectually.

Yeah, pretty much.

Well this is the point in my OP however threads on these forums tend to be semantics debate and never stick to the topic.

LE is in a far better spot by delaying their launch, LE will be a great game as long as EHG continues to focus on fun diablo like design and what LE is already great at. As long as LE doesn’t start to lose focus or deviate from design (Dodge roll was questionable) adding WASD is again questionable. I’d worry if they start to balance around these features.

Just to clarify my first reply, I had no intention to reply to you I apologize, everything is very out of context because of that. I havent been on the boards for a while, I forgot the reply button after that last message would be a directed one.

i really LOVE the idea behind poe2. but one of the biggest things holding it back is GGG’s insistence on making drops abysmally bad.

before the new league. i could roll ANY class and play with a mace and steam roll act 1-3 with minimum issues even despite starting as a caster class. a huge part of it comes has a huge lot to do with my TWINK GEAR. the missing part of the puzzle is gearing. most of the player power comes from gear.

i’ve been monitoring their patch notes and i m happy to see the many improvement they’ve made but ZERO on drops.

so i m staying away from that game. i’ve learned to stay away from games that dont respect my time. yeah ironic that a diablolike enjoyer would say that lol
