I don’t think the devs ever said “we won’t have chat rooms at all” nor have I said it.
But they have.
All I speak is english and I want chat rooms too. I honestly feel that launching the game without having this basic function will hurt retention, and this is coming from someone that only plays SSF. I still want to talk to like minded people in game.

Yeah, but everything not in the game will hurt retention. If they delayed 1.0 to add everything that would otherwise “hurt retention” they’d never get it out the door (perfect is the enemy of good). At some point you just need to settle on a feature list for 1.0 (or any arbitrarily numbered version) & do that to the best of your ability & get it out the door.
