GOG Version of LE

I did say that this point doesn’t have to apply to GoG specifically. I don’t think there is much difference between Steam and GoG in that regard.

But the distribution platform can limit what you can use especially due to restrictions on how you interact with the game.

There are threads on this forum about users of GeForce now that have a hard time with filters because of their weird interaction with copy/paste.
That is a creative design restriction. You want to create a nice feature for your game, but the platform doesn’t allow that type of interaction.

Another example would be something like PoE’s trade page where you can click a button and it will interact witht he game. If you want to make an external site interact with your game, some platforms/vendors have restrictions on that.

Yeah, GeForce Now & copy/paste I get because of where the game is running, but that doesn’t prevent filters from working at all & if filters were synced in the way they can be for PiE that would be an effective work around for that.

I get your examples, I guess for me they don’t feel like creative issues, likely because I’m not in the industry so I’m using a different view of the term.

I’m not 100% sure, but GOG might not allow a game that has as many online authentification aspects as LE, for example login to multiplayer, verification of purchased DLCs etc. All of this clashes with the premise of games that stay forever available, in theory.

Do they even have live service games? Games that keep evolving and expanding every few months?

A game like PoE or WoW that has no offline client and that can only run the latest version doesn’t seem compatible with their service model at all.

LE would only be different in that it does have an offline client which could, in theory, be “frozen” in time to always install a certain version. Although that would require creating a new installer every few months and then keeping dozens of versions available if the game stays around for a few years.

Yes, they do have live service and early access games. Not sure about online-only titles as I’m not interested in them.
