General feedback or ideas for improvements

Feedback: Multiple items, see list below

  1. Pets pick up Gold (only Gold, nothing else) – QoL and EHG sells more pet cosmetics - everyone is happy! I would purchase more pet MTX’s and always use them if they were useful. Give a free pet or two as part of the game so everything is equal.
  2. Remove the skill point reassignment penalty/cost, all it does is frustrate users and discourage players from trying new things. Make it cost gold if you must, but all skill points should be available to reassign at any time, without having to “earn them back” like it is currently.
  3. UI enhancement - Option to collapse the echo bonus stability progress bar into a reward symbol with a visual indicator that I have completed enough progress to get the 3x reward without needing to see the distracting box of text (Active Modifiers) that no-one really reads.
  4. UI enhancement – Always show “area level” in normal mini-map view during campaign/open world. You could change the format of the mini-map box to 16:9 to gain the extra space.
  5. Add an “Inspect Player” feature, showing gear/skills to view other users.
  6. Add more social features to say “Hello” to players in town (Without typing), taunts, emotes, like the D4 emote wheel, use in game voice samples?
  7. UI enhancement – Dedicated breakout preview section panel (left side) while on the “Appearance” tab to preview the individual MTX item you are considering.
  8. UI enhancement – Show customized character display during some loading screens to showcase your look that you spent time customizing, etc. Especially useful once we get item transmogs in the game. This also assumes MTX’s will continue to improve, both in quality and quantity.
  9. Corruption Tiers – Hopefully when this happens in “LEO”, there will be different enemies and bosses or mechanics you unlock as you go higher, and not just more enemy health and damage. Make the progression feel different with different game play options or something.

Thank you -

1 : Gold pickup is annoying so I’m ok with people using pets it does not affect me in the slightest I’d still do it myself because I hate pets lol

2 : I think everyone would be pro-choice for this. It makes no sense how it’s done now I’ve not played any other game - MMORPG, RPR or ARPG where this happens.

5 : I’d love this - right now I alt - tab and have a shortcut setup to the main page of LE builds and just type in the players name from chat/friends list (annoying)

9 : It’s definitely coming. I really hope we get a glimpse this season or the games gonna be very quiet again

All the rest sound good <3

some solid improvement suggestions here!

I still think some seasonal reward may help out for the long haul. They can be some simple like in game titles or runes, dungeon keys, faction points etc. Nothing that will buff up power directly but can make it where every little bit helps.

PoE has a cost to respeccing though it does become irrelevant late game when you have currency & it’s barely relevant early game when you have gold to respec. D1 didn’t have respecs & D2 added 1 respec per difficulty in 2010 (over a decade after launch), D3/4 don’t have anything worthy of note to respec. TQ/GD have a respec cost. Sacred 1/2 didn’t allow for respecs.

So it feels like you’ve just not played many arpgs?

Poe has an unspec all button or 1 at a time but it’s just gold and its super cheap - I was specifically referring to when you reassign a point in LE

1: it’s weird and removes the wrong point half the time (this has been explained to me on here how it’s supposed to work but honestly it still does not make sense and removes different points)

2: when that point is removed you have to then gain experience to get it back

that’s what I meant - My first MMO was everquest - my first rpg was Curze of the Azure Bonds on C64 - I’m pretty old, ok really old but I don’t recall any game along the road that I’ve played where you can remove a point and then have to “earn” it back it’s always simply - remove/respec to where you want.

Maybe for once youuuuuuuuuuuu didn’t read his post properly :stuck_out_tongue:

Side note you’re right probably have not played many ARPGS

Diablo 1 and 2, Torchlight(s), Poe1 since early beta, Dungeon Sieges etc - I spent more time on MMOs and prior to all of that a lot of time on RPGs and turn based games like all the HOMMS.

Side note I think games like dungeon siege, titan quest, sacred etc really don’t feel like “argps” like LE and POE1/2 they feel more like rpgs EDIT - also throwing Grim Dawn in the RPG not ARPG pile too - currently alt tabbed out of the new expansion :stuck_out_tongue:

But yeah back to original topic - removing a respec point and then having to earn it is stupid and makes no sense if it made sense then when you respec a passive point you should lose a character level and have to level up again to “earn” it because it’s the exact same skill passive skills are skills are still skills. If you’d like to debate this please message me privately or start a new thread so you don’t derail this poor guys thread

You’re confusing a few things.

1- Switching a +skill piece of equipment. This will always remove the same points (the node that has the most points in them) and you don’t need to gain any experience to get the point back. You can immediately assign it once again.

2-Respecing points from a skill. You choose which points get removed and you do need to gain experience back.

3- Fully respecing a skill. This will place it the minimum skill level (usually 10 at endgame) plus whatever +skill points you have. This also requires you to gain experience to get the skill back.

So which point gets removed is always known and always the same (either the highest point node, whichever ones you decide to manually respec, or all of them) and one of them doesn’t require any more experience gain.

It’s no different from deleveling a skill gem in PoE (which you sometimes do because of requirements, mana reservation or procs from “cast on” gems).

More importantly, it’s actually no different from you having a level 20 skill gem, deciding to use a different skill and having to relevel that skill from scratch. It just isn’t an issue in Poe because no one actually levels their 2nd gem and instead trade for it.

The only real difference is that you could always switch back to the same level 20 gem, which you can’t in LE.

The main purpose of this system is simply to avoid on-the-fly respecs so you switch from an AoE setup to a boss killing setup with just a few clicks. Which, it should be noted, PoE doesn’t prevent at all. Every build has an alternative gem/gear setup which they switch to when fighting bosses, usually just outside their arena.

Because when something gives you an advantage in game, no matter how tedious and detrimental to gameplay it actually is (like snapshotting), players will feel obligated to use it.

I’m not confusing anything - it’s something I’ve reported several times where I have removed a skill point and it’s taken different ones. Example would be hammer throw where you spec from hammers that orbit to hammers that chain for bossing and you remove the same exact item in the same exact order and then change the point over and it removes it from a different place every time when it should be the same place, as you mention.

You should remove the +skill item and it should ask you which points you want to remove.

And this is the main thing I was talking to, again I have not forgotten anything. I don’t know why you’re comparing this to skill gems in POE1. I could then compare this to POE2 where you can unsocket your Earthshatter, mace using slam skill, unequip your mace and then equip your quarter staff and ice strike skill gem, chuck in your 5 support gems, chat to Doryani or old mate The Hooded one, remove 5 points from damage with 1 handed maces then assign damage with 2 handed weapons just opposite it on the tree.

SWAP SKILLS > SWAP WEAPONS > UNSPEC > RESPEC

Yep, few thousand gold, no “earning” experience needed for anything.

I understand you learn skills in Last Epoch with experience initially, you also gain player levels with experience - the key word on both being experience (passives should work the same way by that logic) and when you respec you aren’t losing experience you already have. As I said it you respec something you already know in the same tree for the same skill with the same weapon it makes no sense you need to get more experience to get a point back.

You and your “on the fly” respec to kill bosses it shows how little you play this game and probably poe2 (by your own admittance) because you don’t need to respec from builds to kill Uber unless you’re specifically trying to exploit something like the really shitty 1 shot mechanics that are found late in the season.

I can kill uber in 1 min on warpath - no need for respec my AOE also clears all maps. I can do this on my timerot too, also same thing time rot dominate for AOE clear. All the chumps using shadow rend, same thing 1 shot uber in .5 seconds and also sit in one spot on your map holding down a button and clear your maps. Same thing with falconer, insanely huge entire screen clear and kills uber in seconds.

You are out of touch with how the current game is played end game level. Theres no need for respecing because the bosses are all easy.

The system for this is dumb, you can defend it all you like. You can nit-pick my posts all you want. You can compare all these other games as much as you like. End of the day removing a point should be just that - remove a point, re-add it where you want.

My god so cringe

Side note - you also dont need to respec on the fly to fight bosses in POE2 either. You have weapon set points in your passive tree you can spec for mapping and bossing.

Have you even played the game you’re comparing LE to? If you’re using a level 20 gem your character is level 90+ if you want to use a new skill you equip that skill gem and BIG SHOCK SPOILER ALERT IT CAN BE LEVEL 20 AS WELL YOU DONT NEED TO RELEARN IT

You can use any skill as long as your character level corresponds to the respective level of that skill. Support gems have no level required either you can cut a level 5 support gem at level 1 if you’re using an alt and you can slot it into any skill what so ever in the game.

Seriously. I dont even know why you got involved with this. The current system is crap in LE for respec’ing thats why he brought it up and that’s why I agree’d with it. Stop making comparisons especially incorrect ones.

If you change the points over, then of course it will remove different points. It follows a specific order. But if you remove the +skill and equip it again and then assign the same point (which is what happens 99% of the time), the next time you remove it it will remove the same point again.

Points get removed from the node with the most points (as long as it doesn’t break a connection for those nodes that require x points in the previous skill). And they also follow some order in the case of a tie. So if you have 2 5/5 nodes and you “blink” the gear, then assign it to a different node, next time you blink you’ll have a 5/5 and a 4/5, so it will obviously remove the point from the 5/5.

What I was saying is that, given the same node layout, blinking +skill gear will always remove the same node. Obviously if you change to a different layout, it will remove a different point.

Because you were saying no other game does this.

There’s also nothing in PoE2 stopping you from having a different setup for zoom-zoom-AoE and swapping on the fly for boss encounters. The only reason this doesn’t actually happen more is simply because the game is very unbalanced right now and most builds can both zoom-zoom AoE and insta-delete bosses with the same build.

So you want LE to change and every boss should become super-easy and we can have free respecs and super-zoom builds?

PoE2 actually had an issue recently with players feeling forced to constantly switch gear and they had to cut down that interaction. I don’t remember which build it was but GGG cut down on that.

Which is what this wants to avoid. Could respec be done better? Yes. Especially at earlier levels where it’s actually a bigger issue that it never is at higher levels, since you can get back to level 20 in 5 minutes or less.

Personally, I like that it’s annoying enough and discourages players not to rescpec simply to swap AoE/boss setups but isn’t actually too annoying if you just want to legitimately respec.

Could it be done better? Sure. But it does fulfill it’s purpose. Which respecing for gold wouldn’t, as can be seen by the mastery respec for gold where top players will always use the same build in the same mastery and then respec at higher level. Gold isn’t a deterrent unless it’s too expensive and in that case you end up in the same situation.

It doesn’t fufil any purpose. You dont need to respec for bosses! Omg I’m done with this you’re on ignore and I’m closing the forums down today because people like you and the dumb stuff you say are why the game is in such a bad state.

More side notes you haven’t even played POE2 this season and you sit here making comments on the balance? Seeya never. /ignored.

I have a strong feeling that “Marty” is another of your troll accounts, considering the kind of thing you like to post.

I’m sorry you don’t understand how the game works. Of course we don’t need to respec for bosses, considering that respec right now is limited by the very mechanic you are trying to remove, so if it had been required people would not have been able to kill the bosses. But something not being needed does not mean it would not be the most efficient way to achieve something, if it had been freely available.

1- Less trash loot. I can’t stand lv<50 no lp items droping over and over and over again at 1000c. 99% of legendary drops are utter trash, you need to fix this. Make legendary drops interesting and remove trash legendaries from late game. 99% of exalted items sucks too. Less drop & better drop, when I hear that sound I want to be excited.

2- Telegraphed attacks sucks. Many boss mechanics sucks unless you can bring them down in a couple seconds. If I have to alt+tab to read a guide to beat a boss, it sucks. Ward on bosses sucks, specially when playing glass cannon classes.

3- Limited damage conversion would be awesome.

4- One shoot kills sucks. 95% of my deaths are one shoot kills doing 10k damage. You need to balance this.

5- Late game is mediocre at best. While I think LE is far superior to PoE2 late game in PoE2 is awesome.

6- Make minions move ahead in the direction you are moving like in Diablo IV.

7- PoE2 combat is something you guys should try to emulate here.

8- Interesting set items.

9- This is very personal, but I feel that 5 skills are way too few. Specially when playing summoner and the abomination does not fix this issue. You can have 1 active skill at most. At very least we should be able to replace the auto attack with a skill.

Yes, that’s why I said:

Thank you for agreeing with me.

Are you sure you clicked on the correct point to remove? That has worked for me 100% of the time since I started playing back in 0.7.something ~6-7 years ago. It’s a bit odd that there’s a bug that only affects you out of the entire playerbase.

PoE requires you to re-level gems (the equivalent of skill points) if you de-level them with an orb of scouring. It has worked this way since 2013?

So you know how gem levelling/xp works but don’t view it as the equivalent situation here? If you decide to respec to a different build or try something different out, do you have to re-level gems? Or do they start at the same level as your previous gems?

Oooof, really? Because they’re primarily offline/single player? We’re you enthralled by their epic storyline, branching narratives, focus on characters & their development/journey and less of a focus on action & loot?

I’ve also got the new GD expansion but switched over to PoE’s latest character driven narrative journey which they call a “league”. I’ll be carrying on with FoA after I’m done with PoE.

From the sound of things you’re confusing swapping a piece of gear that has +skills on it with manually respeccing a skill point. Theses are two different things that behave differently.

This behaviour is why the points are removed based on an algorithm (not randomly as I said earlier), to prevent you from respeccing from clear to single target.

That would be one way of doing it, certainly, but not what the devs have decided on.

Because it’s the closest parallel & how a thing works in one of the largest arpgs in the market that works ecactly how you don’t want it to in LE so it’s rather pertinent to the discussion at hand.

PoE 2 gems don’t have xp, they are “levelled up” by droppable things, kinda like in D1. So not relevant to the discussion.

My teenagers say that too.

@DJSamhein yeah grandad get with the times boomer, imagine being old just parry it my guy…

To be fair, the current system doesn’t actually do that. If you have a 5/5 node for AoE and a 2/5 node for boss killing, simply by “blinking” +skill gear you can change it to 3/5 AoE and 4/5 boss. Although you can’t blink back to the previous state, all you can achieve is 4/5 and 3/5.

Still, the current system does allow for some free node respeccing, which is the thing it was supposedly guarding against. Remembering the points and the order they were inserted and automatically removing the last one and re-adding it would be safer in this regard.

For me these role playing games didn’t seem to have the same pace as games like POE1/2, Diablo 3, Last epoch etc

I’ve been playing TQ2 since yesterday morning and that most definitely doesn’t feel like it has the A in ARPG to me. It’s got awesome graphics, my dream FOV that I wish LE had. It’s got a lot more chatting to NPCs, much slower movement speed etc just less actiony feeling.

You can keep saying how something SHOULD behave but if you believe there is no chance that this specific game as an interaction that doesn’t properly work as intended some of the time then I want the optimism juice you’re drinking.

POE2 doesn’t have orbs of scouring. I don’t play POE1 why would I use a much older game that I no longer play as a point of comparison? The whole system is different anyway but feel free to keep nit picking in here when you don’t even like the system.

I mean I’m definitely the only one who dislikes it right? Video taken from another thread

“Respecing skill points I can’t even tell you how many people brought this up” - Consider who said this, 426,000 people sub to this guy. You know it’s more than just 1 or 2. The dude has 10 times more people that sub to his channel than LE had as a peak on day one.

Don’t worry guys, keep arguing with me on here I’m sure it’s creative. Well done on hijacking another thread! Awesome work! System sucks. You arguing it was literally just you and DjBlockedHim being your usual selves on here lol! “Oh someones commented and they dont like something? Wait, I don’t like it either but I have to disagree and nit pick and comment against it because what else do I have to do this year…”

PS congrats on having kids and referencing the slang they use. Ugh, so cringe. Not sure why you brought up the age thing when you know I’m older than you. I’ll use whatever slang I want bud

It doesn’t

Which shouldn’t need to happen in the first place.

Which also shouldn’t happen

It’s not, which is a major issue.
The point removed is based on an algorithm in the background which differs for every setup and causes another to be removed. It’s not the same always hence.

Also the display for which one was removed still doesn’t work after ages now. So that’s another issue, properly highlighting it for the appropriate timeframe in the approriate visibility would counter a good chunk of the issues already, but not all.

Which you only do to reduce the requirements. There is no situation in LE which demands that.
In PoE it’s a specific functionality to counter a downside of the system, and very properly on top.
This is non-existent in LE and a completely different use-case. Don’t conflate them together.

Also false. While you need to level each gem respectively all experience on those gems stay forever. There is no place where it gets lost.

As you follow up… you cannot switch back to a former setup with full experience. This is hence a distinct different situation and needs to be treated accordingly.

Yes, which it does, in a non-optimal way though. So solutions for a more optimal way are wanted, not discussions about the premise itself, which are inane.

So, following solution as an example:
Skill-point posiiton saving.
You go from 25 points down to 24. The last ‘minor’ node which was applied and is applicable to be removed is removed.
You put a item on which brings it back to 25. Now that specific node is automatically re-applied.

This ensures no major nodes (which have upsides and downsides that change the functionality of a skill) get removed, forcing you to stay inside the way it is skills and it removes the necessity for a experience penalty, which sucks in every way.

Everyone knows why it’s there. Still doesn’t change that the way it’s done sucks, is convoluted and unnecessary as alternatives exist which do the job as well or even better.

There were a myriad of conversations about it and the non-brain argument of ‘but it fulfills that function!’ always comes back while proposals are entirely ignored.

Manually re-assigning skill-points in this situations shouldn’t ever even be possible in the first place, this is the faulty part.

Which is a true statement.
Your argument was just absolutely nonsensical.

The reason this doesn’t happen is because clear is no issue, bossing damage is. Nothing supports major changes into single-target properly without being extremely tedious, which is far enough of a downside that it’s not done.

If you’d followed PoE 1 in development instead of ignoring that it passed further on since the last 10 years then it was back then you would know that this is also 99% solved in PoE 1 by now. Only very very highly specialized builds even think about ever changing supports nowadays, and only before doing major bosses as well… at which point it’s ignorable anyway since the cadence is so low that it fails to bring the detriment about burning the player mentally out for having to adjust steadily on the fly.

You’re quick to point out hyperbole but you’re using it in the most atrocious methods possible.

It’s abhorrent to read your argumentation-line here in this case.

And when did PoE 2 have that specific issue? It is a singular specialized build likely, so neglectible. That’s simply to be fixed and that’s that.

Universally reducing intuitive design in favor of upholding a frince-case is a general detriment, it’s not to be praised.

Yes, still the principle applies.

That alone is a big problem.
GGG did that friction method with trade and it hurt their game substantially. Ever since they moved away from frustration-based friction systems the game is talked about in a vastly better light rather then the mixed perception between either being ‘amazing’ or ‘absolute ass’ depending on how much people were affected directly.

If the according framework around it is upheld then it absolutely does.
Since only in-town you could adjust your build for gold and hence have to return and interrupt your gameplay it absolutely makes sense to allow it.

LE literally is the only game punishing you in this way. The town is not without reason a ‘gameplay reset’ point. Switching equipment to tackle specialized content is a viable option which doesn’t burn people out.
Switching mid-content though is, and that’s the only thing which has to be avoided, which it is when skillpoints auto-apply up to your maximum again without your doing, hence avoiding the pre-boss switch to single-target for example.
Preparation to fight a single-target boss and hence adjusting is a viable and non-problematic situation though, the bigger issue there is how LE handles their bossing by limiting successive attempts at a very low rate.
Allow stability to acrue endlessly and hence do bosses back to back to back and it’s fine. The switch-up is vastly more detrimental to long-term engagement then what you describe being the issue.

And as @Donzpie already mentioned… LE has no content in the current state which would even significantly allow someone to profit from a respec of that type. So there is no necessity to hinder such a method in the first place.

They are, it is a significant detriment to have such a miniscule skill-choice. Reduces build-variety significantly and forces builds to be primarily ‘the same’.
It’s one of the biggest downfalls of LE.

Then go tell why you would de-level a gem for any other reason then the need for it to be de-leveled?
Is the player agency a part there in LE? No?
Then it’s a moot point.

Because it is not as explained above.
Conflating that together is a nonsensical argumentation line, and building it on that basis makes the points beyond moot as they simply don’t uphold.
The premise is a different one, and the reasoning for the existence as well. Hence the situations differ. If you try to say ‘they are the same’ it’s a factually false statement hence.

You can compare aspects, but then at least compare the proper aspects which fit together, this is not one of those.

So?
Go tell then what exactly is the reason why this would matter in a MP game.
I can tell you one exact reason: The market.
First off… the market is utterly screwed anyway, so it makes no difference, and the effect is miniscule on top of that, which is the more important part. So it has no magnitute of effect which would warrant it in the first place.

Beyond that there is no sizeable enough reasoning to differentiate it, especially so since the vast majority of LE is solo-play.

And both have the same core reason to be screwed, which is the respec-issue EHG sees for clear to single-target switching.
A reason which is barely applicable.
And a reason which can be circumvented in different ways.

That’s why enforcing the auto-allocation is a better solution.
This avoids this exact issue and mandates a stop in town.

But that stop in town is not done in-content after all, and hence the need for a punishment to avoid exploiting the system is not applicable in the first place.

This way you can entirely remove the level reduction as it’s not needed anymore.

Also it wouldn’t fulfill the purpose it is supposed to fulfill, so it’s not a possible variant in the first place.

Nonetheless the same genre though :stuck_out_tongue:
Much like Dark Souls also is a ARPG.
A RPG would be for example Baldur’s Gate. To be specific a ‘CRPG’ as it’s a pen&paper implementation into a computergame. Final Fantasy (the SP games, not 14) are J-RPGs. And Dark Souls is the sub-genre of ‘Souls-like’ as the gameplay feeling is substantially different to warrant a sub-category.
But also many MMO’s are also ARPGs, which is only real-time instead of tactical movement, nothing else. Otherwise you get a TRPG.

For a start of a deep-dive into genre-specification.

Nah, it’s one absolute shit-tier mechanic. It was ‘ok’ to exist years ago, but by now and with so many solutions being presented over time and the overall game changing it has no viable enough reason for existence anymore.

That’s extremely ridiculous, even coming from you. How many followers a random clickbait YouTube guy has doesn’t have any correlation to how correct his opinion is. Asmongld has millions of followers, yet his opinions, ooof.

Speaking about correlations, unfortunately chronological age does not correlate to level of maturity.

It is the only game that does it, though, even in a non-optimal way. PoE1/2 don’t prevent it and almost encourage it.

And all the discussions involving this aren’t to uphold the premise, they are to tear it down.

Yes, I agree with that. But what was being discussed wasn’t the +skills issue, it was the skill respec issue. As can be seen by the followup video.

It’s not. Switching to a different skill in PoE also requires you do level it up again. It’s only switching back to the same skill where LE and PoE differ, as I properly acknowledged. So not that nonsensical at all.

That is so ambiguous as to mean nothing at all.

Everything in a game that you can’t do is frustrating for some players. Some players were frustrated that you couldn’t switch masteries and had to level a new character. Does that mean that mastery respec is a net positive?

Hell, some players might even be frustrated that they die at all and would like to have a god mode in the game. Should that be implemented?

Games are made of restrictions. You can’t have a game without them. And every restriction is frustrating to someone.

Why would this change anything? Unlike PoE, where you fight a boss at the end of the map, LE doesn’t have this. You fight the boss when you decide in a separate “arena”. So why would going to town actually prevent any respec shennanigans? You do a bunch of echoes, line up the boss in a bunch of timelines, go to town, respec for gold, then go do all the bosses.

It’s the exact same friction (or less) than having to relevel and it does the exact same thing as the current system.

LE also has no content in the current state which would even significantly allow someone to profit from a mastery respec. Does that mean that you think mastery respec should be frictionless as well?

It’s the same thing, we’re just talking scale.

Skill respec fulfills a purpose. The fact that the game is unbalanced to the point where it doesn’t really matter doesn’t change the fact that the function should exist, nor does the fact that you could tweak it to be better change it.

It should change to a system that is more forgiving at lower levels and less forgiving at higher ones, but it should still exist.

Both were, they’re currently conflated together, so lets de-tangle it a bit.

The skill respec issue comes solely from ongoing gameplay, hence ‘in-content’ situations.
Outside of content (in a town) there is no need for any reduction overall. This is not done in other games either. Be it PoE (which only allows respec in off-gameplay areas), Grim Dawn (which needs the NPC, which is only in towns) and others neither.

The +skill issue is derived from this functionality. Since respec is always possible in content there needs to be a countermeasure against it.
It being possible is because for some odd reason EHG decided it’s too much hassle to press the portal button and move back to do it, instead having gone with the absolutely inane option of ‘So let’s just enforce it with a very convoluted and unintuitive mechanic which we don’t properly showcase the changes either so it only causes problems’ in short.

So to fix the +skill issue you cannot be allowed to respec during content.
This then allows the fixed re-application towards the already formerly allocated skill-maximum during content.
And this solves all the issues.

The only downside is that you gotta use your portal during the campaign, that’s it. Which then leads into instance persistence as an issue, with the respawn of enemies. But that is one absolutely miniscule one that can be ignored as your position is saved.

Changing to a new skill or support is similar to making a new character. You do something new and hence you got to improve that new thing towards max.
If you don’t simply throw out your gems over time this situation becomes less and less and less until ultimately unless you sell them you’ll have potentially a full set with doubles of everything available, hence never again necessitating any leveling of gems.

In LE this situation is perpetual. In PoE it is a progression system.
One is exhausting, the other is rewarding.

Intent matters.
Trade was intentionally frustrating. Said so several times.
Hence your follow-up argument is moot.

The starting argument for my comment was the happyness about it being frustrating, which I’ve specifically pointed out is detrimental. Friction is a necessity, frustration is not.

See above.

Also still a factually wrong statement. First off… LE offers the ‘boss at the end of the area’ mechanic as much as PoE does. So that’s the first aspect which simply is a false statement.
Secondly, a large portion of bosses are separate arena-based fights. Sometimes with a bit of preample beforehand, but often not. Shaper, Elder, Sirus, Eater, Exarch, Aul, Atziri and so on and so forth.

Those things are equivalent. Hence the same functionality for the supporting systems is also creating the same outcomes.

The sole issue here is the availability. PoE itemizes bosses while LE hard-limits boss-access outside of Aberroth/Uberroth instead of allowing stocking up on it. This changes gameplay pace steadily which is a known thing to cause retention falloff at a very very high pace. GGG had to learn that when their side-mechanics were implemented in a way that multiple spawned per map, you had no choice on which ones and they were all rewarding and hence creating a aspect of FOMO on top of that so players wouldn’t avoid them.
The same happens in LE, You’re forced to intersect bossing with multiple monolith runs before redoing at most… I think it was 3? This enforces a constant change in gameplay pace, and that’s mentally exhausting.

False equivalency fallacy.

Mastery is a measure to increase the amount of needed progressions and hence increase replayability. They shouldn’t have been interchangeable in the first place given the short timeframe of progression LE has before reaching major itemization hurdles. This reduces replayability for a already stagnating feeling by a lack of consistent ways to progress.

This is a separate matter hence. You need to look at the underlying foundations to accordingly adjust systems, you cannot simply say ‘xyz is the same functionality in principle, so it has to behave the same!’. This ignores the circumstances and hence leads to the false equivalency.

Yes, it prevents hardlocking yourself as a basis, that’s the core functionality of a respec.
And in LE it also prevents in-content changing of your build-direction.

What else?

The only reason why people actually put up with it in PoE is simply because you can (and everyone does) trade for other skill gems. If you wanted to switch from a build to another and had to start leveling your skills from scratch again, everyone would have been complaining about it for a long time.

Because when you do find another skill gem, you never put it on weapon swap and level it “just in case”. So when you want to try out a few skills, your have to either level them (exhausting) or you simply bypass them through trade.

So the system is the same for new skills. People just don’t care in PoE because they buy the gems instead.

No it doesn’t. Some echoes have a mini-boss obejctive, not all and not even most. And you can avoid those echoes if you want, just like you could avoid arena ones. Just go around.

Most echoes are about reaching the end and fighting the equivalent of a rare pack.

No, they’re not. In PoE you can “activate” your boss fights in whatever character you want. In LE you can reach the stability for a monolith boss fight and you can’t switch to another character to kill it. It has to be the same character killing the boss. So definitely not equivalent and not the same outcomes.

PoE’s system encourages you to specialize your builds. You make a mapper, you make a bosser, you make a delver. And when you want to do any type of content you have an appropriate build that deals with that content efficiently while not doing the rest. You specialize and you swap characters according to the content you’re currently doing.

LE encourages you to create a rounded character capable of both speed mapping and killing bosses because you can’t swap characters to do the boss killing for you. You can for Aby/Uby, but everything else requires a rounded character.

If you can simply freely respec at will, that defeats the purpose. You just create a 100% mapper, respec to boss killing when you go kill the monolith boss, then respec back. No choices necessary, no decision required. Only attrition of having to respec all the time, at which point come the loadouts requests.

It’s the same thing. Hindering mastery respec increases the amount of “needed progressions”. So does skill respec. It’s all a matter of scale. Just look at D2 when you couldn’t respec. You had a fire sorc and wanted a lightning sorc? You made a new character. With respec? You just switch back and forth at will.

As mentioned, it incentivizes making decisions into creating a more rounded build, since you know your build will have to both clear echoes and kill monolith bosses at high corruption. Lean too hard into speed clearing and bosses become your cap, lean too hard into boss killing and clearing echoes becomes your cap.

Free respecs just let you have have both without having to decide anything.
