I’m fine with broader tags. Some of the more granular ones become ridiculous and, honestly, more confusing than not.
They never did. There was never a real consensus on what each was. Roguelike simply emerged because of games that copied Rogue, then games started making different variations on the theme and roguelite emerged, but there was never any real consensus on what is one or the other.
There is a sort of general agreement that if it has elements of meta-progression then it’s a roguelite and if each experience is always the same (within the available RNG) then it’s a roguelike, but even that never became official.
Which is really the problem with tags. Games that are on the border of one or another blur the lines. Sometimes they generate a new genre that makes sense and that’s fine, but sometimes they generate a new genre that doesn’t really need to be a genre.
Same thing happens to music, really. There are a bunch of sub-genres that are kinda ridiculous and superfluous and are created only to try to make something feel more special than it is.
Anyway, this is besides the OP, we shouldn’t really derail this much more.
Entire campaign takes like 5 hours, you dont need to add difficulty to it, just breeze through it as fast as you can, the game starts with empowered monoliths, not before it.
I actually kind of like the “easiness.” It feels like it’s in a good sweet spot between Diablo 3 and Path of Exile. With depth and some challenge, but still accessible. There are a lot more meta builds. And you can just keep pushing corruption.
For years everyone has been gaslighted into viewing Diablo 2 as the way things need to be, a lot of ARGPs try to be Diablo 2 with more stuff, so many that every game in the genre gets compared to it as a standard and when a game improves any aspect it’s seen as “easy” because it doesn’t feel like you’re pressing your face against a Diablo 2-like grindstone.
Eleventh Hour Games are veteran players of Diablo 2, they know what they don’t entirely like about it and want Last Epoch to be better in those aspects, they want Last Epoch to be an enjoyable experience.
